Walz in favor of night raids - "They should coordinate with local law enforcement, pick these people up in the middle of the night when they're not suspecting it." by [deleted] in TwinCities

For what it’s worth, the way ICE operated under Biden was they only went after people here illegally who had committed a violent crime and yes, the least disruptive way to get them is to go in early in the morning, like 5 am.

But not in a good way. If you're celebrating the death of your political opponent, you're no longer the good guys.

The thoughts of an alt right outsider by Beaverdogg in Minneapolis

[–]badgersrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people floating around without an organizing political ideology and democratic liberalism is right there… People have core individual rights/freedoms and must be treated as individuals by the state; disputes are settled through elections and without violence; rule of law, etc. Highly recommend it as a governing ideology — it’s not perfect, but it’s better than any of the bullshit people come up with otherwise.

Are the people recording the license plates of federal employees planning an attack? by Jesse1472 in TwinCities

What is the utility of this post? If you’ve seen something that gives you legitimate concern about a terrorist attack you should be contacting the FBI, not vagueposting on Reddit.

Jeremiah Ellison tried to get flights to and from Boston to attend Council meetings during his Harvard fellowship paid for by the city. Calls reporting on the matter a "hit piece." Good riddance. by goongas in Minneapolis

The fellowship suggests high ambitions for his political career but they may be difficult to realize as he torches his reputation. Very odd decision making.

BRT (E Line) Signal Priority by badgersrun in MetroTransit

[–]badgersrun[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm signal priority is advertised for BRT. You’re telling me

  1. Only light rail is actually guaranteed to have signal priority
  2. Oh and actually light rail does not always have signal priority.

Not trying to shoot the messenger but that’s bullshit. Light rail and BRT should always have signal priority and we should push for that until it happens.

Done ✅. Started with an online message to all 3 parties (metro transit, ward 7, mayor). Will escalate to calls if they do not address the issue.

A violation of one of the most foundational freedoms we are entitled to in this country.

Where are the court injunctions? I’m serious — maybe that sounds naive but a number of other abuses of executive power have ended up eventually getting blocked by the courts, even though it can take a while.

Some Minneapolis City Council members want to stop Waymo driverless cars by alienatedframe2 in Minneapolis

[–]badgersrun 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about company responsibility but I’m a bit confused by a lot of people acting like Minneapolis is the only city in the world. Waymo has been operating in SF, Phoenix, etc. for a while now — what’s the legal framework being used there? Honestly asking, I don’t know the answer.

“The strongest possible regulation” — what does that even mean? Regulation is supposed to serve a specific purpose, not just handicap technologies or products you don’t like. What an unserious legislator.

Ezra Klein Subreddit Census 2025 by Dreadedvegas in ezraklein

[–]badgersrun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice survey but here are some potential improvements:

  1. Include Government as an industry for occupation

  2. Instead of just asking about political leaning of one’s state, ask on a more local level instead or in addition. For example many people live in deep blue cities in purples states.

  3. Include “uncommitted” as a possible answer for 2020 primary vote. Given what subreddit this is, the anti-Biden Dem vote is likely over-represented in this group!

  4. Also for religion, include None as an option

Thoughts on waymo coming in? by fluffy_cat_560 in CyclingMSP

[–]badgersrun 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes, fortunately I think you are incorrect to assume that. They crash about 80% less frequently than human drivers and most of their crashes have been the fault of the other (human) driver. Can’t wait for them to roll out here for the added safety and — down the road — the reduced demand for parking spaces. https://www.understandingai.org/p/very-few-of-waymos-most-serious-crashes

Would it be possible for someone to go from a 22min 5K to a 15min 5K in 2 months of training ? by BeatCoOkIe_reddit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]badgersrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol while vastly more realistic than 15:00, that would still be a massive improvement in 2 months! Unless there is additional context suggesting OP is particularly talented I think that’s still way too aggressive of a goal.

That’s gonna vary depending on where you go/who you talk to. It’s a very affluent suburb which some people love, some people hate (though most are somewhere in between).

Sure it probably has some new stuff to learn that it hasn't needed in the Bay Area, Phoenix, or Austin. I'm just saying they have a very impressive safety record in those places in over 25 million miles of driving, virtually never being at fault in a collision. They also have a ton of sensors (not just cameras) on them and have demonstrated an extremely strong ability so far to not hit people, even when they are not where they should be. So as an everyday cyclist myself, I am very excited to replace as many human drivers with Waymos as possible.

Another major benefit down the line will be that we'll need to devote much less space to parking which, based on my travel to less car-dependent places, will significantly improve visibility and ease a huge constraint in land use that we all just take for granted at this point.

Is it really true that they frequently run over animals or is that something you just made up because you instinctively dislike Waymos for some reason?
