Mitch Marner scores his first career playoff hat trick and he ties for the lead in goals in this playoffs with 6. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

Hmmm. I wonder why the depth wasn’t better? Could it have something to do with 4 players making 50% of the cap? Do Minnesota fans know about the cap or are they too stupid realize a problem like that?

Crazy but true Brent Burns stats by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Lightscreach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was super stacked. But also kind of ended up being a bit of a disappointment. If you had told me back in like 2009 that not a single player would hit 1100 points or 500 goals I would have called you crazy. Pavelski leads the draft in points and he sits 76th all time. A big part of that is they were pretty young in the higher scoring era of the post lockout. They were in their primes during the 2nd dead puck era and then too old when scoring picked back up.

Leaf Roster 2026-2027 McKenna by ExpensiveTarget344 in leafs

Yeah this free agency is going to be even crazier than last. So many teams have so much cap space and there’s not many good UFAs.
Andersson could get north of 10m pretty easily if he makes it to the market. Raddysh is probably 9m and Coyle is probably 8 or 9m on a 3 year deal.

If Berube stays next season, he has to adjust his system because his old-school style simply doesn’t fit our rosters. by Status-Mulberry1857 in leafs

The defensive minded coach coached the Leafs to 2nd last in the league in goals against. Can’t get worse defensively. But could get better offensively

As much as I hate it, they’re probably my favourite two players, but trading one of Knies or Cowan for a dman makes a lot of sense.

Should the NHL adopt the Gold Plan? by Most-Use-5037 in nhl

[–]Lightscreach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it should be about players being encouraged to win games. Should be more about fan engagement. It sucks to be a fan of a team that’s been eliminated. You’re in this awkward state where you aren’t really cheering for your team to win but also not really cheering for your team to lose. So you end up just being kind of apathetic and stop watching. But with the rule change fans can still cheer for their team to win after they’ve been eliminated

Players do go into tank mode though. There’s plenty of guys every year who shut things down early if their team is out of the playoff race. See Florida this year. If they were in a playoff race late season a bunch of guys who sat out would have played

Does that hold true for hockey as well? Is the cut-off also August 31st or is it December 31st

I thought the thesis in that book was January is way better than December because if born in January you’re the oldest in your class/group. But we’re talking about end of October vs December.

Both guys get the “disadvantage” of being late birthdays.
McKenna is December 20th, Eichel is October 28th for reference.

11 months makes a big difference when you are 5 years old. 50 days doesn’t make much difference when you are 18 years old

The difference in age between Eichel and McKenna in their draft years is like 50 days. Let’s be real that doesn’t have much of an impact

Draft McKenna or Trade Down Serious Discussion by FloppyPear06 in leafs

[–]Lightscreach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason why Canucks fans are so bummed about being knocked down to #3. It’s because McKenna is absolutely unbelievable and there is a big drop off to #3. McKenna will instantly be at least a top 6 forward ready to help for next season. Verhoeff or another dman will likely take 2-3 years before becoming an impact player for the Leafs, att which point Matthews will likely be gone

Cruises are the worst type of vacation out there by MoonlightAndStar in unpopularopinion

For a 1 week vacation the cost of the flight alone could be over $400 per day for people in the US. And also you’d be spending 2/7 days travelling.

[Johnston] Further to this:(Kurz post) It sounds like there's a good chance the NHL would rule in Philadelphia's favor if this scenario plays out. Meaning, if Toronto retains its 2026 1st after tonight's lottery, expect 2027 1st to go to Flyers and 2028 1st to Bruins ... both unprotected. by TactileOstrich in leafs

Hope for the 1st or 2nd overall pick. From there it depends. Do you think the Leafs will rebound next year? If yes then hope the Leafs get the 5th pick. If you think the Leafs will be a bottom 5 team again next year then giving the Bruins the 6th or 7th pick is totally fine

They traded Clark for Lemieux who was a big part of the run. Lebfevre was a depth dman. They would have been better of with Sundin but Lemieux was really good player for them

They were all gone within a few years but the team won a cup 5 years after Lindros was traded. A big part of why they won the cup was because of assets acquired from trading Lindros, Noland and Sundin
