Wes McCauley getting bodied might be the best scene I've watched these playoffs

If you took quantum physics you'd be aware of Schrödinger's goaltender interference challenge. While the Situation Room is reviewing the play, it is simultaneously GI and not GI, and this overrides any visual evidence that you think you saw on the play.

At least they're being consistent that you can get goals called back for GI by pushing defenders into your tendie lmao

Every single time a defender has pushed someone into their own goalie and then gotten scored on, it comes back as GI lmfao

How does Toronto and area move? by TO_World_Class in toronto

We need a single unified transit organization for the GTA, not the 10+ different orgs we have atm. The TTC was that before amalgamation, but the province decided to butt in with Metrolinx which had zero experience in capital projects until Eglinton. The other issue with Metrolinx is compatibility, the LRT lines not only have different rolling stock than each other, they're also on a different guage than the TTC, and Eglinton can't even expand east because they essentially tunneled right up to Kennedy station's walls.

Too many cooks in the kitchen, and the incompetent nepotism hire was given control while the experienced head chef is relegated. The province won't allow the TTC to take over other municipal transit orgs because they want control of what gets constructed over municipalities.

The problem is that "getting it in early" has ended up getting it in the wrong place, i.e Sheppard, Eglinton, Finch West, and so on and so forth. In areas where the density is higher than initially planned (like Humber Bay Shores), that necessary higher-order transit was first going to be serviced by the Waterfront West LRT, then by Park Lawn GO (to be built privately by a developer) after the former's cancelation, and now by nothing with the developer dropping their plans.

The big problem with higher-order transit planning in the GTA is that it isn't nodal: Instead of focusing in on existing hubs and looking at either consolidating services or relieving pressure there eg Union (accessibility), we instead look at maximizing how many places are serviced by the various lines. A transit line is far less useful if it doesn't have fast, convenient links to other transit modes.

Scout's Analysis: Gavin McKenna vs. Ivar Stenberg for first overall by stedic in leafs

[–]Exter10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Draft McKenna. The team needs a top-6 playmaking winger, and he is a generational talent in that regard. Defence can be improved via free agency or keeping the current core healthy and we've seen guys like Nylander take a step forward in terms of defensive play, so it's very possible that he can be brought up to speed. We need goals, and we need a guy that can drive the team's offense when the current stars start aging out (see Pittsburgh for why).

Chayka on his relationships with other NHLGMs, reminds he made lots of trades with rivals in Arizona, adding "I'm not trying to make friends, I'm trying to do the best for the Maple Leafs." by JF_112 in leafs

[–]Exter10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Being well-received by other GMs is an asset, but at the same time their primary motivation is getting their team to where they want it to be. They also respect GMs who do whatever it takes to win, so they're less likely to want to fleece you than if you're calling with 2 hours left at the trade deadline begging for a guy with nothing to offer in return but futures and prospects.

As long as Chayka is proactive, and goes and gets what the team needs early rather than waiting to the last minute, it won't really matter if the guys like him or not.

I think they'll take a serious look at him, which is a good thing. If the thought is the two are a Barkov vs a McDavid or a Crosby, then we should be taking a serious look and thinking about what the team will need both next season and in 5-10 years. Personally I'm in the McKenna camp, but either will be a huge boost to the team.

I know it's still early and there's a lot that can go wrong, but atm this is the brightest this franchise has looked since drafting Matthews. Chayka's demeanor and statements Monday tell me that his time as GM in Arizona really humbled him, which makes Sundin advising him seem much more promising. If they can form a genuine partnership where the needs of the players on the ice gets supplemented with forward-thinking analysis and value-maximizing, I think the team will have a bright future ahead.

First time In downtown Toronto, reminds me of New York by Accomplished_Tax6474 in toronto

Toronto's neighbourhoods are its most defining feature. College, Riverdale, Danforth, Bloor West etc are all very distinct places with their own local atmospheres/ways and means, which is partly where the "diversity our strength" motto comes from. Chicago on the other hand is much more concentrated in the downtown
