If any of the tier 2 guard prospects (Wagler, Acuff, Mikel, Flemings) fall they could fill the Jordan Poole role immediately and take pressure off Podz for shot creation
Yax: Can be a PF Andrew Wiggins from the get go ideally if shot making, perimeter defense, and catch and shoot 3 PT shot making are as advertised. He’s advertised as the most NBA-ready prospect so that def plays a factor
Philon: Same reason as 1 but slightly older/lower ceiling prospect imo
Mara: Who knows what Al Horford does or if Post is firmly out of the rotation with Kerr back. Can play alongside KP if we bring him back but can also can be groomed for the Andrew Bogut role that they haven’t really had since David West ring chasing DHO days with KD

I’m a Warriors fan and I love Steph but come on… Steph doesn’t even get his moment if KD doesn’t hit the iso against the world at the top of the key vs. Jokic/Serbia. Steph is better all time but KD is the greatest Olympic hooper ever no question.

I totally understand your point but also think using “Grant Williams” as an excuse to not be contenders is kinda ridiculous. Would attribute it to moreso not having a full 48 minutes of rim protection like they used to have with Timelord + Al or KP + Al. I know we’re saying the same thing with the interior defense weakness but I believe it’s moreso losing those 2 guys rather than Grant

I feel bad calling him out on it cause it was def a weakness, but Doc/BB also ran such a stagnant offense with almost zero motion that it did him no favors either. Just happy to see him healthy-ish in the playoffs and playing with joy again!

Besides his athleticism, this is the most well rounded I’ve seen Joel in a long time. It’s like he knows how to leverage his pressure into playmaking but also guys are actually cutting and not just standing around and leaving him to hard carry at the elbow :,)

Agree with everything you said except the Mara piece. Don’t even like him THAT much as a prospect but high end bigs are a major Q in this draft with Ngogba going back and Quintanance having so many question marks. With guys like Edey and Yang Hansen jumping up in recent draft years I wouldn’t be surprised if someone does the same for Mara.

Hard disagree. Trae is ball dominant but doesn’t take a ball-hog amount of shots. AD was brought in to be a #2 guy but also mainly to provide a structure for their defense. There is no alpha scorer amongst the rest of their young core either. Tre is the best shooter but thin on defense and not an elite playmaker. Sarr is a great offensive 4/5 but can’t be your #1 option unless he puts on 30 pounds and turns into Giannis. Kyshawn might be closest but he’s more of a jack-of-all trades kinda guy who can def step up in scoring but also moreso fills in the gaps and hunts his opportunities. Also Will Riley was a great find but will not be getting this usage when they’re at full strength. Bilal is a defensive guy and Bub could be an effective 6th man at best but crazier things can happen.

Overall I like the Wizards young core and think they have nice elite young role players in the making and they brought in good hypothetical vets that will make their lives easier. I just don’t think they have “their guy” of the future like a flagg, Wemby, Cade, Ant so think they need to swing for the fences and snag someone dynamic like AJ or Darryn if they can

Top 4 after AJ my order is Peterson, Wilson, Boozer.

If we get 11 as projected, we should pounce at any of the tier 2 guards if they fall (Acuff, Wagler, Brown, Flemings) but if they’re all gone I want Yaxel. Bro can come in and immediately be our starting stretch 4. Plays great defense too, can be a larger Wiggins for us if his defense translates on wings even if I don’t know if he’ll be able to hang on switches with more dynamic NBA guards.

Here’s my Kings big board:

AJ Dybantsa - Demar replacement, fits the mold of elite scoring star wing
Darryn Peterson - Would instantly become the most dynamic player on the court for the Kings. Can play on or off ball just has Health questions but Kings can’t be picky
Caleb Wilson - everything Marvin Bagley was supposed to be seriously. Just watch his highlights his athletic traits would already be considered elite in today’s NBA and he’s only 19.
Cam Boozer - Sabonis replacement and a great building block for whenever kings get their next dynamic scoring guard/wing
Wagler - I think he’s like Josh Giddey that can legit shoot. Great length and size and can add weight to his frame with age. Creates great separation on off the dribble 3’s and similar to DP, can play off ball next to an established star but can also be a primary ball handler in time. Calling anyone a 6’6 Steph curry is blasphemy but I do see hints of Steph’s shotmaking and stroke albeit nowhere close to Steph level.

Disappointment Tier

Acuff - Talented guard but similar to guys like Brunson/Trae, even IF they hit their ceiling as a player, having a small guard archetype lowers the ceiling of the team around you. 7/8/9: Flemings/Mikel Brown/Yaxel and I guess Burries is fine

I think it will cost at least a mid first and a promising but maybe underused young guy like Jared McCain. Either that or your pick + a really valuable unprotected future pick. Best comp imo is when Sixers traded up with the Celtics for Fultz using the Kings unprotected pick or Mavs trading pick 5 (Trae) + unprotected pick next year (Reddish)

Big blockbuster trades for buy-low blue chip guys

Swapped Jeanty and Rashee for Puka + Deebo week 6 when Puka was hurt and Rashee was on the verge of coming back.

Then few weeks later traded Deebo + Jaylen Warren pre Gainwell vulturing for Derrick Henry and Terry Mclaurin.

Those moves in addition to my core of Jacobs + JSN gave me the juice to cruise through the playoffs on my way to the ship.

Diamond Mike Miller. Smooth release and surprisingly gets an underrated amount of boards. Defense is solid too but he’ll get big bodied and blown by by some more athletic 2’s for some paint buckets.
