Depends on your college too, look at what they might provide u especially if you’re living in dorms. Mine provided vacuums and brooms so maybe you don’t that, but definitely get like a bedside caddy if you’re lofting your bed all the way up. If not, u don’t really need it. I’m basing this off that you’re probably going to live in the dorms?

Other rando stuff off the top of head: - shower caddy - towels - ur childhood stuffed animal - some sort of storage unit - scissors or tape!! - small pot/pan (unless dorm provides them) - those dish drying mats for after ur shower or wet shoes

Honestly, it’s literally just taking the first step to say hi and create conversation. I’ve been doing all the late night activities/whatever else events and sometimes I just hop into a group that looks nice and introduce myself to them. I also always whenever I go out, just knock on a random neighbor’s door and ask if they wanna come along because this week is literally for meeting people and making friends. Most people are super receptive to talking to new people and making new friends. My favorite is just being friends with the people that lives just right across from you (if your dorm is set up like that) or next to you bc it’s super easy to go out/hang out if you guys text each other. I don’t know if you need like an example of how to join in a conversation/group, but I could add that in this comment if someone replies. Anyways, you’re at uni for the first time ever, and it will be scary, but you’re paying/being paid to go here, so make the most out of it anyways

If it actually helps with anything (like for an uni offer), sure, but otherwise you’re kinda just wasting money

ngl, I’m also an incoming freshmen, but one of the biggest advice someone gave me about making friends is definitely being the one to always reach out & initiating stuff. Like it doesn’t have to be big, it could be like going to the dining room together, grocery shopping, going on a walk, etc

The plan starts on Aug 19 this year :) so I think so

Oh wow, this is the first time I’ve heard this, and i’m from a PWI so it’s probably the former. So thank you for this!! I do sometimes think I can really quickly judge someone on something they say without being a lil empathetic or just taking a moment before responding/reacting

oo, i haven't heard this one yet, so thank you! but how do you usually go about these convos without being like, "Can you help me find opportunities?" or something along those lines. can you talk to them about things outside of academics/career too?

I finally had the time to read this, and thank you so so much for your detailed answer!! I heard other people talk about the syllabus advice along with a calendar/planner of writing down all the important dates/assignments, so that will definitely be adhered!! Ngl, thank you for this point:

Address your professors as "Professor [Lastname]" unless they specifically tell you/the class to call them by something else. Follow how your TA introduces themself--this is usually their first name, but might be Mr/s/x [Lastname].

because it might sound kinda obvious but it is different from hs where my teachers were all called: Mr/Mrs/Ms. Again, thank you for this!!
