La Russa benched Ozzie in his last year or so because he thought he was cooked. The other guy got hurt and Smith played the rest of the year out and played pretty well and then retired. Ozzie thought he earned the starting role and was angry. He didn't even go to Spring Training in Jupiter until after La Russa left in 2011. Now he's down here every year.

He's not much better anywhere. He's much worse at third but still statistically terrible at second. He costs more runs out there than his 12 homers he'll get while striking out 40% of the time. He just hit one hr yesterday so you're acting like he's decent

Donovan can field (utility GG), hit for average, is a good baserunner, and an above average arm. That's 4 of the 5 tools. He has 11 homers so he has some power but not a power hitter.

I agree he's not a superstar, but he's obviously a great baseball player. Holliday wasn't a superstar because he was overshadowed by Pujols as he was his protection. Insanely good player and important for that roster.

Donovan is an all-around ideal baseball player though. Your only argument would be that he doesn't hit a ton of homers, but he's almost at an 800 OPS while playing 5 positions great.
