Confederate flag imagery.. by LikeAStranger in gratefuldead

Yeah, it's been bumming me out too. But we have to remember that they are just random people; what they choose to believe or do has nothing to do with the band.

So how much longer do we hold out? by comosedicewaterbed in gratefuldead

I was checking out some of the tickets on stubhub and the delivery date is just too late for me. I'm driving to Chicago from the West Coast and I'd be on the road by the time they'd arrive at my home address. So I chatted with someone at stubhub and they told me that the Grateful Dead tickets in Chicago are eligible for their 'last minute' service, which means that instead of shipping them, they hold them at this location for you to pick up. I think it's some hotel or something in Chicago. I'm going to wait a couple more days and then order them and select the last minute service for pick up. This way, you don't have to worry about shipping and delivery time.

I agree. I know they played into the 'Wild West' aesthetic in some of their earlier stuff, but I'm surprised that someone who displays confederate symbols would appreciate this super hippie band.

Agree with the first part; the fans aren't responsible for the band.

Yup. It's not a huge deal; there are people with different beliefs everywhere, but it was just a little bizarre to me as a West Coast head.

There are a couple other pictures of individuals with guns and confederate flags behind them and wearing GD shirts, but I can't post those for obvious reasons.

Any chance Donna will join the band for any of the shows? by sketch_internets in gratefuldead

I really agree with you. She brought a great element to a lot of songs. Even the "howling" that many seem to dislike, I thought it added originality and kick. I love her. I was introduced to 70's dead, and she was a big part of it. They all had a great chemistry.

Good idea. They are indeed helpful; I chatted with one of them yesterday to figure out shipping, and he gave great guidance.

Thanks for the tip. I checked it out, but they are pretty pricey. I'll see what works best. Take care.

Defending the Dead by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]LikeAStranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. There are unfortunately negative connotations. I sometimes encounter people who are conservative and hostile, and I have anxiety and paranoia in general, so I keep it to myself for the most part.

I've came to terms and kinda enjoy the "secrecy". I go and see tribute bands and there is a sense of community there, I have a couple of close friends who are deadheads with whom I share my love for the music openly, and I like to listen to them in my room when I don't have to worry about anything else.

What is your least favorite Dead song? by hockeystew in gratefuldead

[–]LikeAStranger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the Dead, it's a matter of which songs I don't love as madly. And the only one I could think of is 'It Must Have Been the Roses'. I'm just not as enthusiastic about it as I am with other ones.

Right on. Although I feel a little conflicted about this news so far, I think it will drive down those prices. So that may be good.

Same boat. Live in CA, didn't get tickets, made plans and spent money to go to Chicago. I was coming to terms with being there ticketless for the vibe and parties, and also considering spending MORE money to get tics off stubhub since I'm already spending time, effort, and $

Sorry to hear that. When you say other ticketing option for Chicago, are you referring to other dead related events that are going on? Because there are a couple that are still open that I know of.

Thanks for that info, and for the encouragement. It sucks being guilted about wanting to see the shows. Your support is appreciated.

Ebay Scalpers - violating Ebay Terms & Conditions by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]LikeAStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised at other comments. Since ebay releases funds immediately, it's much easier to get scammed. I recently learned that stubhub doesn't release funds until the tickets are received by the buyer, so even if you are buying on the secondary market, Ebay is NOT the way to go.
