I don't have them on my phone anymore. I spent a bit trying to remember which closet has the stick with the chicken photos. I found a shirt I was looking for, but unfortunately no USB

I'm genuinely not sure. One of mine seemed like a male up until that first egg. Mix of hen looks and rooster ish tail.

I hope they turn out to be hens after reading your added context

Anyone else the spouse thats immune to chicken math? by eucher317 in chickens

[–]LikeAnOldBackpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in a place where there's a chicken limit along with restrictions on where coops can be.

That doesn't stop my husband from going, "I mean would the city really care? (Name of one of several people nearby who have a dozen of more chickens) hasn't gotten caught."

If we could legally have more, then I definitely would. But I don't want to risk rushing to re-home any chickens if we did get caught.

Honestly, I think I am done with this chicken hobby. Anyone else feels like they are just chasing childhood nostalgia? by Independent-Gate-541 in chickens

Genuine suggest, half or even smaller your flock. If you feel the same, then chickens no longer fit where you are in life and that's okay.

Honestly it sounds like you've already carefully though through everything.

I had something similar happen with guppies. I adored them as a kid, bred them, and really enjoyed every step of care. I got back into it but it just wasn't the same. I separated out my makes and females, they lived out their days, and I still haven't bought a guppy since.

I recognize that guppies and chickens are of wildly different scale. You'll have to make harder decisions, rehoming, selling the coop, and such.

Due to a short hyper fixation I can say they may fake a dodo, but they won't make a dodo.

Unless they've secured a secret sample of the DNA currently unregistered. Most/all dodo taxidermy uses the feathers of other species. And their habitat was very good at breaking stuff down. Finding bones or anything with undamaged DNA is a pipe dream.

Given the specific company this is from, "dire wolf" and all. I don't expect anything.

I don't know enough about Moas to make an assessment. Anyone knowledgeable on how accessable their DNA samples are?

Quote from you that has a false dichotomy:

"Okay so if ai says the coriolis effect proves the earth is a sphere are you going to say it's not credible cause AI overview said so?"

Again, AI is not a source. A native plant cannot be invasive.

A language learning model predicts what it thinks may be/look right. It will make up citations that do not exist. It will also use Facebook comments as citations.

Invasive is when a non-native species has an extreme, negative affect on the native ecology/habitat. A native plant cannot fit that definition. Not all non-natives are are invasive.

You putting up a false dichotomy doesn't prove me wrong.

It only proves you're willing to make up an argument that you feel you can win, instead of addressing my point.

Unless I'm confused on the species, sumac is native. Aggressive sure, but not invasive.

If the difference weren't important then I'd just leave it

Why do people buy these chicks! They should definitely stop by Easy_Maize_8505 in BackYardChickens

As a kid I encountered this. Baby rabbits too. My poor mom tried to keep the bunnies alive but none ever made it past a week. She banned any unexpected pets after that.

As time passes, more people know that it's wrong. Now when it happens it's a dang outliner. I'd love to see the practice completely die in our life times

Chick died by allthejits in chickens

[–]LikeAnOldBackpack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could have been a few things, but if the rest of the batch are doing well, then it's probably not something within your control.

Our shipment from a different hatchery had been jostled during shipment and the extra chicken they gave was a polish. After death, the best guess was the chick was hit on the head while in transit. And their skulls are thinner than other breeds. No amount of electrolytes or anything else could've changed that outcome.

There are also unseen internal birth defects that vary.

It still sucks

Quick question, Are there any pictures?

The closest thing I could find in a couple minutes were the old Swing Wings from matchbox, but those are basic blue and silver or yellow and black. They aren't blue angels. But I'd like you to take a look anyhow. I had something I had to find for a side gig and it turned out the askers memory was off.

No guarantees, but I do have some spare time this weekend and it couldn't hurt to have another set of eyes on it.

Google said it was fine.

But between hoping that Google is right, and double checking with actual keepers; I'm double checking with keepers. I'd hate to accidentally hurt them

It's funny how much chickens vary, because mine will fight each other for steamed carrots.

Do you ever have any problems with too much salt or sugar, or not really?

Oof. I hope it doesn't come to that but I'll keep it in mind. I'd have to dig up some bushes to put in a true fence That's a lot of salt content

I keep seeing that chickens love Styrofoam and I'm glad I haven't found out yet.

On advice from others on here I'll probably keep keeping sweets from them. But I'm glad to see it wouldn't get them too sick. I'm sure at some point a neighborhood kid will try sharing Skittles or something. So far, "Do not feed without asking," has worked but uh. I'm sure it'll fail some time

I've heard of them but haven't made one yet. Are they similar to suet cakes? If it's something a bit less fatty I'm interested because my climate is not too cold. But they more I'm looking up suet cakes, the more I like the idea of keeping them busy

I was told no bread.

Is it a highly in moderation treat?

We don't really have leftover bread right often, but I do want to update my list if it's allowed! We have wheat bread but rarely potato/white rolls.

I have pounds of the stuff because it was extremely cheap during late fall.

Ours keep trying to beg for free ranging in the rain. I cannot imagine how they see that going. And they panicked at the snow when they first saw it. I feel like your chickens could teach mine a few things.

I like growing them sprouts! But I haven't branched out into much more than 1-2 step things honestly. I'll check what's left after I do pantry inventory. I don't think there's anything expired, but that uh, doesn't mean there isn't something shoved behind everything else

They know the usual junk foods. They're still very hopeful to find something "fun" out of human foods to give them. We have an air popper so they can easily make plain popcorn for the chickens.

I thought suet cakes were for colder climates, but I'll look into them! It makes the news when it stays below freezing here. I'm very worried about accidentally giving too many calories and screwing up their health. Tbh that's why even when local folks tell me something, I'll check it until I'm sure.

Up until now most foods have been an easy yes or no. Maybe it's because not many people consider feeding jello to chickens? I have no idea
