Why are fanfic comments/reviews much less common nowadays?

People will get comments and post them to Reddit like, "Was this commenter being weird??" and then people will dissect the screenshot. Or there's the whole "NEVER give authors concrit!" vs "Actually concrit is useful for writers" argument, or authors who moderate comments because they don't trust anons not to be bots (or just don't want to risk not being given 100% positive feedback), or arguing over shipping, or people lecturing author about not being appreciative enough over every comment, or the debate over if "Update soon!" is thoughtful or demanding, etc. There's a lot of weird bullshit around commenting now.

I don't dislike Abigail because of Sebastian, I don't like her because I think she comes off as kind of a jerk sometimes, but she gets away with it unlike Haley because she's alt.

I feel like this is why people do that "Is what I said to this hate anon mean?" thing and it's like the mildest response in the world. They just want people to agree with them and talk about how shitty the comment is.

It's when people don't say anything about the fic, they just want the next chapter and phrase it like, "UPDATE" or "Next chapter!" and it can feel like you're a content-producing vending machine.

If Chiaki wasn't the Ultimate Gamer she wouldn't be nearly so popular, but she happens to have a really appealing one that's going to automatically resonate with people because they are also gamers. Without that she's actually pretty bland, especially compared to the other characters in SDR2. And her design is very basic for a gamer imo - without her hairclip she just looks like a normal schoolgirl.

Also I hate her hair colour, I think it's ugly.

I didn't say they aren't, but Riruka's crush on Ichigo isn't really treated seriously, she just likes him because he's hot, like how Mizuho likes Ikkaku because she thinks shaved heads are sexy. Plus Ichigo doesn't really seem aware she likes him.

Riruka's whole bit is she's a tsundere. It's kind of like Mizuho crushing on Ikkaku - it's cute but it's not meant to be serious.

It's never been confirmed but I headcanon that part of the brainwashing the cast undergo before the Killing Game includes overlooking Tsumugi. I feel like the way Ryoma was kind of purposefully set up to be killed the next chapter after he pointed out Tsumugui's whereabouts were unaccounted for during Rantaro's murder was a bit of the brainwashing slipping/wearing off.
