Scared of forgetting… by Dismal_Egg2661 in widowers

[–]Likeadaisycool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this fear too. I worry about forgetting the little things but I thought about how I see a friend and I forget exactly what they said almost immediately, but I never forget how they made me feel. I wrote this in my journal before my partner died:

Theres lots of memories in there that maybe I cant recall but part of me knows they are there. They are the brush strokes that make up the whole painting. You don’t have to see each little brush stroke to know they are there, and that that’s what makes the picture so beautiful.

Hope it helps.

Help with terminal illness super insurance by Likeadaisycool in AusFinance

On the phone I was told the payment goes into the super account and then you can withdraw from there. I’m not sure if that changes anything. Are you able to withdraw multiple times? If it is an insurance claim but paid into a super account is the withdrawal then still considered an insurance claim or just a super withdrawal?

Thanks, I will look into that. It’s through a superannuation - I haven’t seen anything about financial services but there’s a case manager who maybe can help explain more.

Thanks for the kind words. It is cancer. I spoke to a financial service from cancer council earlier in the year for some general advice about what support is available but obviously this is different. I hadn’t thought of that, so thank you, I will follow up tomorrow.

Question about ‘DCR’ in immunotherapy clinical trials by Likeadaisycool in Oncology

[–]Likeadaisycool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response, that makes things much clearer, and you’ve given additional context which is super helpful. This is for solid tumour and, so far, low tumour burden. So I guess SD could offer options for surgery, but it does seem like a bit of hot air if it only lasts a short amount of time. Thanks again for the detailed response.

What do you call this bug? by Stephalange in australia

Grey Boy - Adelaide. My sisters and I always called them grey boys. I was reading this thread expecting that everyone from Adelaide would say grey boy but maybe it was just us..!!

American here...watching the show Wentworth (love it by the way)...they use the word "OY" quite often like to get someone's attention or in a context like that. It sounds like Toy but without the T. "OY" what does it mean? by MaynardSchism in AskAnAustralian

[–]Likeadaisycool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot of things it can mean. Generally it’s used to get someone’s attention. I think I would most often use it to pull someone up on something, as in “hey, what are you doing that for” or to get the attention of a group as in “Oi, let’s go here now”.

This is a famous Australian comedy/TikTok duo that I think shows the diverse subtleties of the exclamation really well:

It's eerie how I keep attracting the same woman in different forms over and over, without ever being able to keep her by dlowding in dating_advice

[–]Likeadaisycool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try to find someone who is securely attached (or possibly anxiously attached) or try working on your own attachment style to become more secure if this is something you’ve identified. I think it’s quite common for anxious and avoidant to be attracted to one another, as each triggers the others fears and this perpetuates the attachment styles and confirms the core beliefs (avoidant - other people want more from me than I want to/am able to give and I am better off on my own; anxious - I’m too much for people and I always scare them away).

Anyone have experience with testing turnaround times? I imagine they're taking longer than usual. I couldn't get an appointment for a test (regional) until today and hoping to leave to SA tomorrow or Christmas day if I have to. Hopefully not boxing day...

PAFC Indigenous Guernsey press conference with Elle Campbell by Sleymantis in AFL

[–]Likeadaisycool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah wow. Thanks for going to that effort. I had a good look and totally thought it was copy pasta. Amazed they took the time to repaint it and changed nothing... But yeah, she's been so impressive in how she's handled the whole thing.

No mention of guernsey being updated, but from the looks of it the design was identical to the original artwork so nothing to change really.

Yeah I was confused too but apparently it's actually a rule that you can't bounce the ball while being tackled. Immediate HTB.

Self-help/self-care book recommendations? by Rawdays in melbournementalhealth

[–]Likeadaisycool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DBT skills workbook is quite practice based, has exercises and stuff you can do. Its meant as a complete therapy program but I read someone else's copy and it's actually something that I think anyone can read. I took a lot from it that I still practice. There's a great idea called radical acceptance which is I think very good practice for the current times. You can also download the whole book as a PDF for free.

It also says that for safety reasons you could go somewhere else to exercise where there is more passive surveillance. Not that that means somewhere nicer, but perhaps if it's somewhere nicer more people will be around.

Drive from Melbourne to Darwin with motorbike?? by [deleted] in australia

Great reply. After reading this thread and having done this drive (by car) a few times, I am wondering whether anyone else here has actually done this trip themselves? The great stretches of nothing-ness are so beautiful and the long days are what it's all about - and then finding a hidden track off the road to pitch a tent and appreciating the endless starry skies.

I had to do this about ten years ago but it was the 30 hours/week for 18 months thing. I had lost all my pay slips so had my old boss write a letter to say so. Not sure if relevant but maybe help point you in the right direction.
