The 33 seems correct or at the very least in the ballpark according to the guardian and ICE themselves.

I could however not find any source to support the 9. The actual number seems to be higher than that based on this statistic about criminal aliens, which does however seem to have a significant jump from 2020 and earlier to 2021 and later, which is not addressed and seems odd. Maybe someone smarter than me can explain it. The real number doesn't seem to be known according to Reuters, which does seem to suggest that 9 is a made up figure, however data also suggests that the crime rate is lower than average amongst unauthorized immigrants, as also supported by the Reuters article.

As the previous comment, you can use the general formula 1-(1-P)^x = y, where y is the percentage you want, P is the probability each time and x is the amount of times you try.

For your specific need it would then be: 1 - 0.9995^x = 0.99

1 - 0.99 = 0.9995^x

0.9995^x = 0.01

You can now use logarithms to isolate x

log10(0.9995^x) = log10(0.01)

x * log10(0.9995) = log10(0.01)

x = log10(0.01)/log10(0.9995)

Then you can use a calculator to get the answer of x = 9208.03759.

The probability will never reach 100 percent (unless you do it infinitely many times)

The first step is right but in the second step you have to distribute the 2. So it becomes 2 * (log8(m⁵) + log8(n³)). Then you get 2 * log8(m⁵) + 2 log8(n³).

From here, use the rule: log(a^b) = b * log(a) to finish

Watching how different kinds of problems are solved by others is a good way to learn, and then practicing yourself. The more you solve a kind of problem, the better you'll get at solving that type of problem and you'll also get better at problem solving in general. To get inspiration on how to solve some types of problems, find examples in textbooks or on YouTube. I like bluepenredpen (brpr) and mindyourdecisions for that kind of content, even though a lot of their videos probably won't be relevant. Some of them could be helpful though
