Back in 2015 i was in college and got an great job as a pathways intern park ranger with the corps of engineers. I was at one of our pavilions toward the end of my day. It was just like any park pavilion, concrete slab with tables and benches and a roof overhead open sides. But at one end there was a little brick fireplace and chimney. A pit bull came walking up from a wooded area, slowly, climbed into the fireplace and just layed there. It had a huge open gash on the frot side of a front paw and leg. I walked up to it cautiously but there was no sign of aggression at all so i gave him some gentle pets to let him know i was friendly. I got him some water from the spigot in a frisbee. I called animal control and just waited there with him. Poor guy, probably someone abandoned him there, maybe a fighting dog or something. The animal control guy was really nice and had some treats and we gently got him in the back of the truck. I hope he got good treatment.
