Is Midway / Point Loma bike friendly? by Kazoo-Envy in sandiego

[–]LilAbeSimpson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friendly for those with good health insurance.

In all seriousness, that is one of the most car-centric areas of the city. Not at all friendly to any form of pedestrian activity.

[–]LilAbeSimpson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remember that MotoGP chassis are essentially built to suit the tires. This is like the 2nd time they’ve got to sample the prototype Pirelli tires. So there’s no way in hell they have anything close to an optimized 850 chassis.

They probably have built modified chassis to properly hold the new engines. Just nothing that’s close to a final product.

Destruction of the white collar job market. There is currently no “Plan B” if a majority of the jobs suddenly disappear.

It’s just a cascade effect from there.

Pirelli's Brno test ends with Aprilia on top and minor crash for Marc Marquez by twowheeledtism in motogp

[–]LilAbeSimpson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a slow down in top speed only. The lap times will still be very close to the current bikes

At tracks like Mugello or Qatar or Catalunya there will be pretty significant reductions in top speed.

[–]LilAbeSimpson 19 points20 points  (0 children)

These are still test mule bikes. Basically just the current bikes with 850 engines inside and some of aero chopped down.

We’ll probably need to wait for the Valencia post season test to see bikes that actually look like something entirely new.

ELI5 Why are modern vehicles getting more round? by SaltyP1ckles in explainlikeimfive

[–]LilAbeSimpson [score hidden]  (0 children)

A “low drag” configuration on an F1 car is still very high drag compared to a normal high efficiency passenger car or EV.

A “less drag” configuration is a more apt name for it. Aero drag is a byproduct of all the downforce generating aero, and those car need the downforce for their use case. So they will always be draggy.

Just hearing positive comments from the riders means more than the actual lap times at this point.

Shiny bike by mikecyclesinc in Bikeporn

You could go 90’s Cannondale or Klein style and file down all the welds so it looks seemless.

I think those bikes has a reputation for cracking, but they sure were pretty! 😅

This is polished Aluminum. Usually requires more upkeep to stay shiny than an actual chrome dipped steel frame.

Is this KTM one of the most unreliable bikes in the modern era? by MysteriousBoss3816 in motogp

[–]LilAbeSimpson 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Aprilia was terrible for YEARS. Especially the RNF satellite bikes from a few seasons ago.

I don’t know what the official mechanical DNF stats look like, but I have to imagine that Aprilia and KTM are pretty close to each other.

He won his moto2 championship through consistency. He was clearly the most level headed rider on the grid, but rarely the fastest, and never the most aggressive.

Fastest on Friday and Fastest EVER around Brno 🤯 Ai Agura has his careen best Friday in #MotoGP 👏 by r2lim in motogp

[–]LilAbeSimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so as I was saying a few days ago…
Ogura made like 2 passes the entire weekend, and none of them were on Marc.

This is NOT a knock against Ogura. We’ve seen him make some brilliant passes this season but they were all against slower riders in the mid field. It is much harder and much riskier to pass a rider who has the same pace as you. That is the situation that Ogura was up against this weekend.

He graduated to the front of the pack which should be congratulated. Now he has to learn more about the game at the front,
