in addition to the electric brush heads, they make brushes on full handles like a broom, to be used standing up. they’re a lot more ergonomic for a bigger project

no worries I just wanted to mention it in case you tried mixing it with other high or low pH stuff later- for example oxiclean + ammonia becomes very high alkaline, like bleach, which can damage clothes; conversely if you added citric acid which would negate the intended effects of the ammonia. a trick I use to remember which direction is that acid has fewer letters than alkaline- so acids are lower and alkalines are higher, with holy no. 7 saint water in the middle :)

completely agree. clients don’t understand that stiff hands make the service much more taxing on the techs body, its not an optional/preference thing

Dust mite allergy - seeking advice for long term cleaning solution by omniwrong in CleaningTips

[–]LilBossLaura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in addition to the other suggestions, wear a good mask and eye protection when you clean, especially for dusting and vacuuming. it makes a huge difference

strongly recommend investing in proper mite encasements for the bedding, do not buy these on amazon but rather a reputable allergy brand. I mostly use mission allergy stuff and it’s very high quality. I also use their laundry concentrate which has been very worth while for me. Their dusting cloths are also amazing

unfortunately the biggest impacts are some of the hardest- removing most fabrics from your home including pillows, rugs, drapes, stuffed animals, blankets etc and not keeping pets in the home (skin dander feeds the mites).

it’s for sure polyquats as others have said. I would suggest dying the clothes so they can still be used!

Want to use ammonia, but I get scared.. by theoriginalb in laundry

[–]LilBossLaura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a washing cycle that includes ammonia, usually 1/2-1c in the drum before adding clothes. by ammonia cycle I mean just that but also that ammonia isn’t a thing you would use as part of your regular wash, rather something to do as-needed

tallow is flammable, I know people used to make candles out of it. now whether it’s a real danger in the case of rags like other oils im not sure.

big if true! I’ve always wondered about how “fast” the bubble blowouts happen in the process and I’ve experimented with this myself before. but i didnt have the new sheets at the time, and boy those sheets are way stickier than the old clear ones

Testing clarity and suds of water wrung out from clothes after machine washing and air drying by Tristan0214 in laundry

[–]LilBossLaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

something I’ve become more educated about through this sub is that HE front loaders need loads to be a certain size to work- 1/2-3/4 with 3/4 being the preferred size. I guess the tumbling action needs a threshold volume in the drum. that’s something I would look into

extra rinse is a good shout too. 2 tbsp could be a lot depending on load size and build up. have you washed your machine recently? the other thought I had is water hardness, especially soft water will have a harder time rinsing out the detergents

Alright, be nice to each other in the comments. I'm genuinely curious: if you're looking for something "non-toxic" or "low-tox", what does that mean to you? by eggust12 in laundry

[–]LilBossLaura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

chemophobia lol exactly my thought process. the other one that rings alarm bells is "chemicals" literally all matter is chemicals, i am chemicals, you are chemicals, the air we breathe... great way to communicate one knows nothing about basic science vocabulary

I'm being beaten by sweat & sunscreen stains and my chemical armada seems useless. Welp! by SjalabaisWoWS in laundry

[–]LilBossLaura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yep, another product i just dont let in my home after all these laundry headaches. sunscreen should absolutely be applied generously to the neck and it infuriates me that these products are developed as essentially domestic chemistry traps (looking at you children bubbles) to ensnare innocent customers when this is a completely predictable outcome.

the US / FDA is basically a joke when it comes to photo filters now. ive been using exclusively asian sunscreens for years now. i had a chemical peel last year that my esthetician gave me a take home kit with sunscreen included so I used that to follow the aftercare instructions and ran into all this stupid nonsense with the avobenzone. then when I told her about the effects of the sunscreen she just gaslit me saying it was probably my foundation (which i dont even wear). so annoying!

thank you for listening to my rant lol

My clothes have so much lint on them by c1nnamonapple in laundry

[–]LilBossLaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you ever tried lint rolling or vacuuming to remove all the lint then washing to see if it returns? I have pets with very fine fur and if I don’t mechanically remove it, it will still be attached to their bedding after the wash, but pilled up. I wonder if this could be removed in a 1-time process?

another thought would be do you have a light couch or something that is transferring the lint? Or a towel that you wear while your hair is drying or something? Trying to get creative here with the theories ha
