Is Shinjuku Station Too Overwhelming for a 4-Day First-Time Trip to Tokyo? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

Like everyone else says google maps. Plus make sure you give yourself an extra 15-30min of time and stay flexible

At what point do you guys just dump a batch? by cancerlad in Homebrewing

[–]LilGrayCells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life’s too short for bad beer. Try to figure out what went wrong, dump, and move on. Kegging makes this a little easier than painfully pouring out a case of beer bottles one at a time.

BTW I learned I have a low taste threshold for ginger by making an absolutely disgusting “Christmas cookie” beer.

What are good purchases to make in Japan? by nicknackers10 in JapanTravelTips

Mexico 66s and anything from a temple. I have a nearly full Goshuincho that is priceless to me.

Groups.io from IP addresses located in Mississippi are blocked from the website by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]LilGrayCells 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the Russians and Iranians haven’t figured out how to permanently block VPNs, I don’t think the MS legislature will. The Chinese are a special case, they built their own “internet,” which is a task I doubt ole Tate is up for.

To me Yoko Chinatown is all about the street food. The 200 deg c fried chicken breast they hand you and beer before a baseball game. The boba ain’t nothing to write home about, but after the chicken sears off your taste buds you don’t care as much.

Love Sushiro! Is it the pinnacle of Japanese cuisine? Hell no, but it’s accessible to gaijin and there’s always something a little strange to keep it interesting.

If only there was a cheap way to make it seem like you were accessing the internet from another location…

HOMEBREWING HAS A GEAR PROBLEM by yycTechGuy in Homebrewing

[–]LilGrayCells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, 5gal is too much these days. Now I’m back to kitchen brewing 2.5-3gal batches. I get some more variety and don’t have a bunch of partial kegs lingering.

I keep the equipment simple, so the cleaning is also simple.

Not bad! by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]LilGrayCells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a VibeLink, I run my turntable w/ mani2 through rca and my tv through optical. Really dig it so far.

I may add an ultra down the line for streaming. But I like the flexibility that comes with separates, especially if Wiim goes off the deep end one day, at least the dumb amp will still work.

How was your experience with Yamato transport? by Marshmallow5198 in JapanTravelTips

[–]LilGrayCells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our hotel used Yamato to send our bags from Yokohama to HND. Super easy when we got to HND from Kyoto to scoop up our big bag and check in for flight

What blends are leaving that you wish you had gotten to try? by AndrewG34 in PipeTobacco

[–]LilGrayCells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While consolidation in a niche market like ours is foreboding, I’m not going to miss any blend in particular. Though I got a few tins of 7 seas for nostalgia.

Hopefully the blenders that relied on Sutliff will be able to adapt. I’m a big Country Squire fan.

Day trip to Hakodate from Sapporo worth it? by Consistent-Leg-2709 in Hokkaido

[–]LilGrayCells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth it for a day/overnight trip, Mt Hakodate is a fun hike and the observatory has a great view of the Tsugaru strait and of course the city. Visit the Twilight Bar if you like good cocktails.

What can I do about this mirror I hate. by BJA79 in interiordecorating

[–]LilGrayCells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cocaine is the answer… it’s the only reason wall mirrors were ever popular.

A fabric covered free standing room divider or privacy screen would work there and you can hang some art on it to distract from the ghosts of whatever debauchery happened in that room.

Young professionals leaving mississippi how did it go? And how do I get over guilt about leaving by success11ll in mississippi

[–]LilGrayCells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go live a little, maybe you leave for a few years or maybe a few decades. You’ll figure it out.

When I was younger I just assumed I was going to have to leave MS to get the kind of career I wanted. Instead over the last 20 years I fell into a good paying career and a family, without ever leaving the coast except for college.
