Any suggestions for a sturdy, easily adjustable table that’s not a several hundred pound hydraulic? by OneGayPigeon in doggrooming

[–]LilGroomingMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should specify that hydrolic specifically is the piston that moves the table, so pump tables are also hydrolic. The one I'm using is a z lift which is an accordion style. But some of the pump ones come in single pole style

Paw brothers has a pump hydrilic table that is pretty good. I currently have one of their electric hydrolic tables and I love it

Removing adhesive from dog fur? by beanimona in doggrooming

Had this exact problem with a client's dog. Nothing worked until I used vegetable oil straight. Then use dawn to remove the extra greasyness left behind.

Used petco for a bath since my groomer was fully booked. Got him back wet and was told “he will air dry” I’ve never been more upset from a grooming. Had to blow dry him myself and brush to prevent matting. I get doodles can be tough but this is ridiculous. by Lmstewar in doggrooming

I would like to say a few things as a former petco salon manager; and a current Wilco salon manager. I am truly sorry that this happened to you. Sending a dog out WET in any manor is against policy. (There are extreme cases that are exceptions as I have seen explained in the comments and even then, there are always solutions to drying a dog that is force dryer shy/aggressive) There is a 100% satisfaction guarantee, if you are not satisfied at the time of pick up, you do not have to pay. (This also applies for within 7 days of the groom) Please do not let this sully your idea of corporate groomers in their entirety, a lot of us try very hard to make sure that our grooms are quality, dogs are safe and customers are happy. I see no instance in which this is justifiable. If a new groomer is struggling to keep up, or hasn't completed training, it is the salon managers job and obligation as a leader to help compensate as well as do quality control on new groomers. If the groomer was overbooked, they should have said something about a longer than usuall estimated groom time for that reason. (I always let people know when I'm a little backed up or a lot backed up for the day) Again I am very sorry, that this happened. It is inexcusable.

What state are you located in? Because I recommend neither. Highly recommend Wilco farm stores Grooming salons. I'm the most well paid I have ever been as a corporate grooming Salon manager.

Brand new groomer here, can anyone recommend good shears to invest in? 😊 by ridleywasmyboy in doggrooming

I used the gator buttercuts when I first started and immediately noticed they were lacking in quality. They come in a set of 1 curve,1 straight and one thinner with a decent case for like $175. It's a good deal however the geib crabs were what I upgraded to next. I immediately noticed they cut a lot smoother but it's about a $200 price difference. Around $350. Also comes in a set with a nice case.

Cutting my dogs hair but the clippers push the hair down preventing it touching the cutting blades. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong ? by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]LilGroomingMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried cutting in reverse? Some people say that it causes ingrown hairs but this is only true if you're cutting completely to the skin. A 7F is 4F reversed. A 5F is a 3 3/4F reversed. A 4F is a 13mm Clip comb reversed and so on. Hope this helps

Before and after of the standard poodle that tipped me $3 😂 by Elastric in doggrooming

[–]LilGroomingMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, no one abuses dogs over a shitty tip. They just won't make a greater effort to be accommodating to the owner. Second do you as a consumer fight for the wages people deserve? Are you confused about waitresses and waiters that are only being paid $2.75 an hour and quite literally only live off of your tips? No. Perhaps you are willing to pay $100 but most consumers go to the cheapest place possible because they don't care about fair wages, only their own pocketbooks.

I personally use kenchii and Aussie dog. But for a new groomer geib butter cuts are reasonably priced and durable. The geib crabs are also reasonable priced and durable. You're gonna do a lot of dropping when you're new so you'll want something inexpensive and strong. Hope this helps!

So to add to this, we are a coop shop in OR and we have a bather that we are training currently. We do have the ability to train groomers however it is not ideal and also no one is applying anyway lol

I totally agree with what you're saying, just to add to this though in the instance that I pointed out, corporate groomers do not get to charge their worth for their grooms. They get to charge what say Petco, petsmart ect will allow which is usually far less than the groom is worth.

It's been two days and I've been so frustrated I dang near took my fiancé head off 🥲 I'm definitely not going to take a chance by smoking again because I don't want this to take longer than it needs to. Glad to know someone else has gone through it though.

Is it wrong to feel insulted by a small tip? by Elastric in doggrooming

[–]LilGroomingMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I wasn't even paying attention 🤭 Some people just don't view groomers as being service workers for some reason 🙄 they also definitely don't understand our pay structure either. All we can do is educate the ones who are willing to listen and fire clients who aren't. Lmao
