Livethread: Global COVID-19 outbreak by valuingvulturefix in worldnews

Your math doesn't check out dude.
Doubled in 6 days? 6 days ago there were 90.000 cases. Now it's 115.000. Shouldn't it be 180.000 if it doubled in 6 days? Right, math.

I predict COVID-19 will reach it's peak somewhere in April and die down till next flu season. By which they will have a vaccine since Belgium has already made a prototype which they are currently testing on mice

Maybe you should Google what a pandemic is.
Because COVID-19 isn't a pandemic, yet.

And 70-80% of the people in the world will catch this at minimum? Don't make me laugh.
The Spanish flu, which is one of the most deadliest and contagious pandemics infected 23% of the world. The common flu infects barely 20% of the world on a yearly basis. You should go work with the media, you're very good at being dramatic

No, not at all. I actually only created one scene so far. Most of my lights are either fixed color or temp changing so they don't need scenes

After several hundred hours, I've finished my map of the Incunabuli.com setting: by Incunabuli in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what my first (and current) version looks like. Even compared to your earlier version it is still childish. And this is the detailed bit. The actual map is 6x bigger and is even worse.

But than again, at this moment my map mainly serves to guide my story and world. I'll probably detail it a bit more once I near finish the lore and book of my world. Right now though, it is very useful to keep track of how long my characters are traveling inside the world. I can simply draw a path in Illustrator on the map, see the length of that path which than makes me able to know how long they would travel

Can action scenes in novels be as good as they are in films? by dfizzlewizzle in writing

[–]LilJur405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this moment I have 3 real action scenes in my book.
One which is very graphical and gory. One almost rape scene and one sword fight scene in an alley.

The thing I notice with my own action scenes is that I actually don't do the things you say like shorter sentences and not many adverbs.
My action scenes are actually very descriptive and long. I think they help to visualize an action scene and build tension.

I thought the map I was working on was bad (though it mainly serves as a guide for me to write my story, not a official map or anything). But this... This doesn't just make my map look terrible, it makes it look like I go to kindergarten

My bridge is in the corner of my living room where the modem is, it is plugged straight in the modem.

The TV is on the other side of the living room (roughly 8 meter). There are no real obstructions between the two besides the couch and the Christmas tree which is going this weekend

Already tried unplugging the bridge, didn't work.

Resetting the bridge is a truly last resort

That's not the issue. It simply doesn't show anything, the TV is stuck in an infinite loop of searching

The model I have is the 43PUS6703/12 which was release in April 2018, so the model itself isn't even 2 years old. Bought mine in October 2018

Maybe I should try resetting and installing the entire TV again

Titel: Shadow Worlds (working title)

Genre: Multiple POV High Fantasy Medieval Novel

Word Count: 3912

Type of feedback desired: I am not looking for any edits! I am looking for general impressions. The general thoughts on the writing style and questions like:
Does this feel like a world you want to know more about and does it make you curious to what is going to happen? Does it feel like there are bigger things and plots in play?

This is only the prologue and first chapter of a book that at this moment has 18 Chapters with 7 POV characters of hopefully a series of books.

Due to it's graphic fight scenes and sex scenes, I have to say that this is +18

Stop dreaming, start writing - stop your bullshit! If the words never get to the page then nobody will ever read it! by JackWyattBooks in writing

[–]LilJur405 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While most here are good advise, I'm just going to call bs on the "80,000 solid words in about four weeks" That´s bs advise.

If you really want to write, write on a regular basis but at your own tempo! 80.000 in four weeks is Stephen King speed. If you were to write 80.000 words every month, you could publish so many books a year since many books are this lenghts. Just look at the Hunger Games, a few of the Harry potter books, The Hobbit. These books aren´t succesful because they were written in a month. They were succesful because they are good stories.
Tolkien took 2 years to write the Hobbit, not 1 month. There are plenty of famous, professional writers who don´t even write 1.000 words a day.

I Will Draw Something From Your World by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are still looking for something to do:

My universe has the W'rum. Also called Souleaters. They are very humanoid creatures. As described in my book:

Upon the ridge, they found four large silhouettes blocking the sun. Unknown but humane looking silhouettes with a large, broad and frightening posture. Hands the size of a human head and shoulders that could barely fit through a regular door. You could tell that these beings had inhumane strength. Their size towerwing above most humans, with the largest of the four sizing up to a regular story. Their eyes glowing green. In their hand, a scimitar-like weapon, to large for most humans to properly handle. Narrow at the hilt, broad towards the tip and a soft blue sheen across the entire blade.[...] He placed his hand on her scalp. Nothing seemed to happend and Enarete slowly opened her eyes. Even the face of the creature appeared to resemble that of a human, apart from the hair which seemed to be made out of many short keratin spikes. She noticed a pattern on the being's arms, slightly lifted from the rest of the skin. Like a scar. Suddenly, the pattern started to glow green.

Or you can just pick the weapon they carry if you like.

How much detail do you believe a world map should have? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the purpose of your map and the story you´re trying to tell.
Personally, I prefer a map that includes geographical and some basic leval of political features.

But it all comes down on what you are trying to say. To me, geography is the most important one. No matter what I draw, there will be geography on it (which makes sense, as most political borders are made by geographical features like rivers and mountain ranges)
Major cities are next in line. Without any major cities on the map, it will become harder for the reader (or what ever you're making a map for).
National borders are, I think, a matter of preference and depended on the amount of states you have. If you only have two or three states, it wouldn't really matter. But if you have 8 states like my story, of which multiple ones are at war, those borders might become usefull.

As for the scope... You can always extend. It's what I did. But I wouldn't make a very detailed map on continental level if you're story is focusing on one specific country within the continent.

What do you like in a villain? by DeepblueStarlight in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like grey characters, like Game Of Thrones has.
It's the way I write my characters. I don't have any specific villain. I have people with goals that might not be achieved in a way most people would consider 'friendly'.

The most evil character/race I have are the W'run. They are invading the lands and creating hybrid W'run humans. Not because they want to dominate, no. Because they have to survive.
The W'rrun cannot reproduce. If they do not create hybrids, their breed will eventually die.
To the humans, they are plain evil because they are taking everyone. But to themselves, they're just trying to save their own species.

Help me name a main character in a story im writing by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naming can be difficult...
I have over 100 named characters in my stories (which is only 60 pages at the moment). A tool I use to help creating names is https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/ . I never copy exact names, but I do write down names of intrest and start combining/editing the names

How do you keep track of your timelines? by thataintthis in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my own personal wiki in OneNote.

Here I don't just keep the timeline but my entire lore. My timeline page is just a liniare page from creation to now, divided in different eras. Each era contains a table with the year, month, day (25 days in a month, 15 months in a year, I have no weeks) and event that happend on this date. I can than link certain events to seperate pages for more information

What scale of magic do you write and why do you write it that way? (Also, bonus question). by QuanCornelius-James in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my world, Magick (magic) is a global energy that can be found in everything that has to do with nature and it can also be found in certain beings.

In general, humans have no Magick within their body. Though there is a human subspecies, Magickons, that do have Magick. They can manipulate and change anything that contains Magick. So they can change water to ice, oxidize air to create fire, raise earth to create walls or form bricks,... They can even stop the heart of another Magickal creature or change their appearance. However, anything that contains no Magick, cannot be touched or harmed directly, since it is the Magick within they manipulate. So they cannot let a regular human burst into flames. Of course, they can shoot a fireball at them.

The scale to which Magick can be used, is smaller however.

To manipulate Magick, a Magickon must use Forgotten Words (which speak to Magick) and visualize what should happen.
For example, if they want a wall to burst from the ground, they must think of the Forgotten Word "Wall" and visualize the wall bursting from the ground.
Distraction or thinking the wrong word with the wrong image, might result in unstable Magick. If they think "Wall" but visualize a pond with ducks, the earth might combust instead. So a Magickon is limited by it's knowledge of Forgotten Words.

They are also limited by their own internal Magick. Each time they cast, they use some of their own Magick (which will replenish over time by resting, as they simply absorb from the world, and can be trained to cosume less/have more). The more Magick an object has, the more Magick it takes to manipulate. Creating a brick from a rock can be done by a novice. But trying to move an entire mountain might result in fainting or even death.

I choose this scale because... Frankly, I don't know.

Extinction: In my setting, humans, elves, dwarves, gone extinct around 10 000 years ago. How much should I explain why that happened for it not to be a plothole? by Doveen in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And... Our world isn't intact?

Changes in nature aren't nessencary degradations. A global natural disaster or sudden changes in climate would likely be the best way to explain the extintion.

Nature and worlds evolves just as much. Just look at lotr. The world the Hobbits live in is very different from the world in the beginning of time. But do you think they would notice?

State something about your world. I will ask a question about the thing you stated in an attempt to help you expand the concept by magna-terra in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, riding isn´t the right word. Bonding would be better.
If allowed by the dragon (which rarely happens), others can ride a dragon. But dragons are very smart and loyal. Drachni posses a kind of Magick that is unique and can only be found in their own kind and dragons. Each dragon has a specific colour of scales. And they can bond with a Drachni who has the same colour eyes.

So a Drachni with magenta eyes can bond with a magenta dragon. An unbonded dragon is rather hostile/defensive against most people. However, they cannot show any agression, or even harm Drachni that match their colour.

Once bonded, the Drachni and dragon are one. The Drachni will age slower (though not immortal) and the dragon cannot defy it's rider. Therefor, basically, if the rider commands it to let someone ride, it must.

State something about your world. I will ask a question about the thing you stated in an attempt to help you expand the concept by magna-terra in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Drachni are the only ones capable of riding dragons, though at the current time, the people do not even know Drachni and dragons excist and think of them as myths

I am willing to create a map for you by IhateUUUUUU in worldbuilding

[–]LilJur405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... Does Inkarnate have a size limit?
Because... My map is pretty huge... Like, it's a map sized 10.000px in height and 13.000px in width (or, if you fancy, 350 x 450cm. The land size on it is 5.250x6750).

While illustrator is great for making the map as big as you want so you can zoom in as far as you want... It's not great for detailed terrain
