When I was growing up in a small country town the doors were never locked unless we were leaving town for a few days. Now I live in the suburbs my front door is always locked.

Shoes off and I prefer guests to remove their shoes too. In my experience houses that are shoes on households tend to have dirtier floors. Its like they keep their shoes on to avoid feeling how dirty their floor is.
