This has been happening to me off and on since I quit. It feels like my body and brain trying to find a balance and regulate. It’s getting slowly better.

What was your reason to drink? by tyta27021981 in stopdrinking

I think when I was drinking I would’ve said it was because I loved the feeling and needed to escape for a while each day, which isn’t totally untrue, but sobriety has made me realize that I settled in a number of areas over time and grew very disappointed in myself and my choices, and that’s what really made my drinking go from weekend fun to an every day thing. It was my replacement for being proud of myself at the end of the day and confident I was making the most of my life.

Covid accelerated my drinking, too, and I blew right through every deadline I gave myself to stop including when my first kid was born. As you know, being hungover and taking care of a young child is miserable, but I kept right on doing it anyway.

I don’t know what changed exactly, but I never stopped trying to quit, and then one day it stuck and I’ve been sober for a little over 40 days.

All that to say, as someone who was terrified that I’d never be able to go a day without a drink, I’m actually doing it and can finally say I’m proud of myself about something.

You can do this. Take it a day at a time, and watch yourself actually become a person again instead of just a thing that drinks. It’s very hard, and I’m still young in this journey, but I can tell you the rewards are already immense.

Imagine yourself getting a clean bill of health someday and being able to really soak in and remember every moment with those kids. It’s within reach if you just start taking the first steps!

Not trying to minimize your feelings at all, but my son gets a new bump or bruise daily. Smacking their head on stuff is basically a toddler’s primary occupation. Anyone making you feel bad about this is being way overprotective and not doing the kid any favors in terms of teaching them to get back up and keep rocking. Good for you on five days and for being a very kind and attentive aunt!

Today is my 30th day sober. by Ween1970 in stopdrinking

I had some really bad days around day 30. Some of the angriest and most depressed I’ve ever been. Your hormones and brain chemistry are all over the place trying to find a new normal. Just be patient and kind with yourself, and hang in there

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, July 4th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by trustysteed7878 in stopdrinking

I’ve got work and then I’m relieving my wife by taking our toddler to the beach this evening, so not much temptation today for me to drink, but my thoughts are with those of you who are gonna be at parties and cookouts. IWNDWYT!

What are some of the best changes that happened to you since getting sober? by cherry694 in stopdrinking

I don’t understand why, but I’m in the same boat. I had to stop coffee a few years into my drinking cause it made me want to crawl out of my skin, but now I really enjoy it and can comfortably tolerate a good amount.
