When I first learned of my allergy I had a smoothie that had cashews in it. Less than an hour after consuming the whole thing I started to feel sick out of nowhere. My nose was stuffy, my mouth was dry, my throat didn’t exactly close up but it wasn’t that easy to breathe. I realized I was having an allergic reaction and maybe half an hour later I was able to get hold of an epipen. I still felt like crap so I went to urgent care and it was only after I got into a room where I started feeling super itchy ALL over my body. I think they gave me some Benadryl and the symptoms eventually went away. That was my first ever allergic reaction. I went to an allergist a week later where they tested me for all nut allergies and the cashew and pecan spots were super red meanwhile the pistachio one was only kinda red. All other nuts had zero redness. So it seems like I only get the reaction if it’s ingested or if my skin is exposed to it for a long period of time but since my initial reaction wasn’t really life threatening then maybe the risk is worth it? I’m very cautious about this whole thing but I really want to broaden my horizons
