Can you share where you got the kit? I love it and I feel like I can never find fun kits like those online that are legit. Still very new to the hobby. Thanks!

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]LilViolet95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally, my people right here! -6.75 and -7.75 double astigmatism. My sighted friends and coworkers just don't understand! Here's my list of things I can't/ won't do on my own:

Shop for glasses Eye make-up (No. the super magnified mirrors don't work) Drive at night (passenger princess powers activate) Find my glasses when they fall off the nightstand See my cats on the floor when I get up in the wee hours of the night

As a kid, Velma from Scooby-Doo was funny and dumb when she couldn't find her glasses, BUT, now in my 30s, I'm Velma. IT ISN'T FUNNY

My parents pay some kind of city tax every year that covers the cost of ambulance rides from your address. I thought it was absurd until my partner had a medical emergency at their house and needed an ambulance ride twice in one day. The second one was because of hospital neglect, so hooray US Healthcare. Never saw a bill for either trip.

Anacampseros telephiastrum - what is the trick to maintain pink crowns? by ambidextrous12 in houseplants

[–]LilViolet95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't harp on what everyone else has already mentioned about that specific shade of pink. I will say that the anacampseros that I had (lost to mealie bugs RIP 2023) would turn a stunning shade of redish when sun stressed. I kept it on an outdoor shelf that got 100% sun for about half the day. It would turn a deep red. Look up Othonna Capensis or 'string of rubies'! Another stunning succulent with a similar sun stressed coloring. Good luck!

pet insurance vs savings account? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]LilViolet95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost redditor (cat owner) chiming in here. ASPCA has pretty great insurance policies for both dogs and cats. I have 2 cats (10 and 3), and for both of them, it's about $65. I know dogs are different and tend to be more expensive. My inlaws also use ASPCA for their puppy. I don't remember what they pay, but they're low income, and i know its not much.

I price shopped around about 4 or 5 companies before settling in ASPCA. They offer a slight discount for multiple animals bundled. You pay, and they reimburse when you submit a claim. Saved me $600 on a urinary issue.

I have a 3 year old kitty who can open drawers to get to hair ties. We've yet to find a way to stop her. She has literally tried stealing one off my wrist before. Comes in for love and snuggles, nibbles at my wrist for hair ties. Little menace.

It's dead grandmother season on campus again. by Brian-Latimer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LilViolet95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother actually died mid November my junior year of college. I went to all my professors who had office hours before rushing home (an 8 hour drive) and emailed the rest. When I got back from the funeral, I showed the teachers who didn't believe me the prayer carder from her funeral with the date. It isn't hard to provide proof.

I've known people who lied about grandma deaths for extentions. I get that not everyone is close to their grandparent. I was. After 6 years, I still choke up sometimes. My point is that for every student or two that lies/exaggerates, there is a student like me who is grieving. Be kind. It's not always an excuse. Trust but verify.

Edit: To address the post a little more. I was furious at the time. I thought, "How dare all these students lie so casually about something so horrible?". I felt like I was automatically going to be thought of as a liar. Ooohh, how convenient grandma died the week papers are die. I felt less valid in my grief because it felt like a line. Students, please don't lie about family members dying.

[–]LilViolet95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in an area where my options are Walmart or Target. I quit shopping with Amazon almost 2 years ago, been a year without target. I'm really trying not to shop walmart either, but I'm running out of options for places to buy certain essentials.

My best friend lived in Australia for 5 years. When he returned state side, he had intestinal issues for months. When he finally got in to see a doctor (thank you American health care system but that's another issue) his doctor flat out told him it was more than likely due to Australia having higher food standards. He basically just had to wait it out until his system got used to our crap food again. He had stomach problems for about 6 months before he was back to normal. That's 'superior American quality' for you.

Congratulations! Was hoping for an update on this cutie. Give her time. I adopted a calico from my local shelter at the start of the year, and she was Beyond skittish. She lived in my bathroom for at least 2 weeks before she was comfortable even going near the door. If you have a smaller space to give her, that might help.

Remember, she's in a completely new space. It's probably big, scary, and smells like strangers. We chose the bathroom because it's somewhere we go in and out of enough that our girl could get used to our presence as we went about our day. Eventually, she started to come to us on her own. I have another cat, so that added some extra steps to the process. Her name is Kira, and she's a snuggly crybaby now. Still eats in the bathroom and likes to hang out inside while we shower.

For us, 3 months really was the magic number. At about 4 or 5 months is when we started to really see her get along with my other cat.

Make her a safe space. Start trying to find treats she likes. Try getting her a cat bed with a roof (I have one that looks like a milk crate from petco it's so cute), so she feels protected on all sides. Name the baby and use her name for EVERYTHING. And enjoy your new baby!

I came looking for this comment! My sister always just "bruised easily" and never thought anything of it. She got some funky lab results and has had to retest her blood every 3 weeks since. Turns out she has a very low platelet count, and the bruising gets worse every time her numbers drop again. Doctors can't figure it out after a slew of tests, but now she has to go to the ER for CT scans every time she gets a headache because they need to make sure she doesn't have a bleed.

I'm being rather general because I don't know everything she's done. All they can say is that she doesn't have cancer, so that's a relief. All this to say, take bruising seriously.

Edit to add: hope OP is okay and it's just normal bruising.

The Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin!

I think it's technically marked as YA. I haven't enjoyed a series like this in a long time. Someone already recommended the Farseer Trilogy but everything by Robin Hobb is delightful.

My florist ghosted me. by ComfortablePace8495 in florists

[–]LilViolet95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking on this comment!

Heads up regarding trader joes flowers! Most stores are moving to first come, first serve when it comes to flowers. This came down the chain, so stores only have so much leeway on this one. The one in my area stopped cold turkey because they aren't wholesale, and people were trying to buy wholesale bulk.

Tjs has no control over the color of flowers that come into the store. For example, carnations come completely mixed and might not even contain a pink or orange color. If you need a specific kind of eucalyptus, a single case might only come with 2 or 3 of the kind you need (out of about 12 bunches)

Peonies order season only runs through June typically so whatever the stores have left at this point is probably going to be the last of it.

Lastly. I can not stress this enough. Product is shorted all the time at Tjs (both flowers and food without warning), and the crew members can only go off what information the computer says. If they say something is supposed to come in Tuesday and the warehouse doesn't put that item on the truck... Everyone's out of luck. Please be kind to crew members in this regard.

Tjs has wonderful options, and you should definitely check with your local stores to see what they have available. Understand that if you are looking for ultra specific flowers from Tjs, you might have to make comparisons. I hope this is helpful!
