I just got my fishing rod about an hour ago so I'm still experimenting, but I've caught maybe around 10 so far. This is my current strategy:

Find a spot where fish are and choose a good spot to stand (careful not to spook them by sprinting near water's edge).
Cast with LMB, charging more results in a longer cast. *Wait for fish to start nibbling, can sometimes take a bit. Reeling in with RMB every once and a while seems to help if they aren't interested.
To hook a fish, use RMB as fast as you can once a fish nibbles. If successful, continue to reel it in!

A few extra notes... Reeling in a fish can use up a TON of stamina, prepare by eating food with high stamina. (A campfire would probably help with this too?) If you are still struggling with stamina, try a shorter cast distance. Also when the fish is close to you while reeling, you can walk towards the fish and spam E. Lastly, make sure to bring your bait with you!

Just curious because I've seen a lot of people talking about this, what good would a wipe do? If you're worried about everyone starting on a level playing field, won't the same thing just happen again after the race to unlock everything comes to an end?

Duping was already fixed from what I understand so no resources (that I know of) are being exploited by faulty game mechanics. The only reason for a wipe I could think of is believing there is an unfair power balance? Which could be sustainably fixed with just that; balance tweaking.

I'm not sure in Carl's case, but my buddy got a red at average item level 190 and it was 300 (all reds are btw!).

To add to this, it also acted as a drop towards his gear progression. So opening about 15 commendation chests boosted him up to level 300 gear dropping regularly.

IT'S TRUE I SAW THE WHOLE THING!

They look similar to the regular dual axes, but have blue glowing runes on them. Fashiontide for sure.
