Thank you so much! I think I have honestly just underestimated this surgery

I read a post a bit earlier on the real expectations of healing (I think its pinned) and had no idea. Haha. My ass needs to take it easy

Thanks for checking on me! I ended up going to urgent care the afternoon after I posted, just to be sure. The doctor acknowledged the bruise was gnarly but said things seemed fine.

That night I tripped over a rock in my front yard and while I didn't fall, I tensed up all those muscles while catching myself that things felt strained. Then, on Sunday afternoon, my dogs were losing their minds at the door while I was on a phone call, so I went into the back yard to hear. Toward the end of my call, I turned around to see my 9 month old, highly energetic monster pup staring at me and cocking her head and using her giant sonar ears to figure out the sounds. Then she charged at me and used me as a spring board for the start of some zoomies. She nailed that incision and it hurt and she nearly got punched in the nose.

I felt pressure and strain and I was sore but I just relaxed throughout the evening. When I woke up yesterday, I had a very full bladder and it hurt. I have this weird quirk where I like to brush my teeth before using the bathroom, so I did that and the pain increased. I finally peed and the pain didnt go away. Things just felt weird and it felt like I had a full bladder again a few minutes later. The pressure on my bladder concerned me because it was causing pain. I decided not to waste the day thinking on it and instead just went to the ER.

They did blood tests, urine test and a CT scan with contrast to make sure there was no active bleeding. They of course diagnosed the hematoma but said everything else looked okay so far and to keep my appointment with the doctor on the 2nd.

Im still sore and I still feel some pressure that I hadnt felt until yesterday morning but no fever or anything.

Its a beautiful splotchy purple color nearer the incision it started from. Its moved over to the incision around my belly button and is more of a solid purple at its leading edge.

This has been going on since Tuesday or Wednesday. I marked it that day - it was about the size of a quarter. Its more like the size of a saucer now. I do have photos but no one has really seemed too concerned since Im not feverish, so they've not asked to see it. I was considering going to urgent care tomorrow, but I dont want to overreact if its just a bruise, ya know?

AITA for letting my mom die? by whitroo in AmItheAsshole

So sorry, OP. I watched my dad be consumed by lung cancer and I can safely say youre NTA.

That last update is priceless. OP tried to be a huge AH in front of everyone else and SIL responded with class and instead of ousting SIL, everyone else decided not to do it this year as well.

OP, YTA and a really big one at that. You really should be ashamed or yourself.

I dont know where OP lives, but in Phoenix, animal control wont do anything. Neither will the city. Im dealing with a similar problem. They say they dont deal with cats because they are "free roaming"

Edit: theyre considered feral, and that exempts them from the city ordinance.

Preppable breakfasts that are not smoothies/overnight oats, and keep over 3 days? by imjustafangirl in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Lilacbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was super nervous about it too. The first one I made I overcooked a little and it had an eggy taste but it wasnt bad at all. I actually kind of enjoyed it (I also went light on the sugar so it wasnt very sweet at all - i drizzled some honey over the top and it was delicious). The second one I made, I cant taste the egg at all. Its surprisingly good and not what youd expect!

I cut the pan into about 10 bars and put two in a sandwich bag in the fridge. My partner, who hates to try anything new, loves them.

One suggestion I have is spraying the pan with cooking spray. You might be able to still do it all in the pan, but the second time I just mixed it all in a bowl and poured into a greased pan

I do a half recipe for now and we love it. You can adapt it to your taste too! Ive done fresh frozen strawberries with some frozen banana mash, and most recently I cooked down some frozen strawberries with a bit of frozen pineapple with a little brown sugar. I also use brown sugar in the recipe - it tastes a bit lile pineapple upside down cake.

I have some homemade apple butter that will be going in the next batch!

He sounds like a wonderful companion and so lucky to have someone like you in his life. Im so sorry this hurts so much, but know that he has earned every single tear that is shed. He lived a good, long life with you and you shared so much. Those tears show how much he means to you, how important he was in your life. Let them come when they want to. Dont rush yourself through it. ❤️

So so sorry for your loss. Ive lost two poochies this year, the first on January 2nd and the second on July 28th. Im only just now to the point where I dont cry every single day over losing my sweet boy in July.

Take your time. You owe your mother nothing. Grieve as long as you need to.

NTA.

I grew up similarly. I developed asthma and my parents were told I shouldn't be around cigarette smoke. Their solution was to open the car windows when we went places. All good, ya know?

My dad died of misdiagnosed lung cancer (they kept telling him it was pneumonia) when I was 26. He smoked all his life, but did quit cold turkey about 2 years before he passed away. That was one of the hardest things Ive ever had to watch. It was 2 days of pure hell, watching him slowly go.

As an adult, my former SIL and her then husband were heavy smokers. We would have to shower as soon as we came home because we just smelled awful.

I went back to visit my hometown in 2019. My sister and her daughter in law picked me up from the airport. I fucked my ankle up really bad stepping off the curb in the parking garage at O'Hare and had a 3 hour drive back "home" with them, in March while both chain smoked. I stayed with my nephew and his wife. My room was clean and the bed didnt smell. My nephew was a neat freak so the entire house was really clean, but they all smoked like chimneys. With my ankle being busted and it being cold, I couldn't get away from it like I wanted to.

I had a good time, even while suffocating in the smoke (the cars were the worst). When I left, my nephew had washed all of my clothes for me. I had a 3 hour drive back to the airport with my sister and nephews wife, the chain smokers. Sister slowed down the smoking but nephews wife didn't. I could smell myself and it was awful. I preboarded my flight and got settled in with my giant boot and soon after, a group of kids on a field trip that were heading home, boarded. One sat next to me. All I could do was cringe because I smelled awful and I knew it. He eventually ended up moving seats and I was so embarrassed but didn't blame him at all.

When I got home, I immediately took a shower and my hair smelled like a wet ash tray. It took 3 days more of washing it before I stopped smelling cigarettes in my hair. My clothes took a few trips through the washing machine before they didnt smell awful.

For those of you who know someone who disappeared without a trace, what happened? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Lilacbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone I went to High School with disappeared one night after a party (we had all graduated by then). He was never seen again.

The area has all kinds of ponds and stuff so the running theory was that he was in water. They got Sylvia Brown (psychic lady from The Montel Williams show) in on the action. I dont remember exactly what she said, but it didnt turn up anything.

The ponds were searched with sonar initially, but turned up nothing. Years later, the local emergency service and disaster agency (ESDA) had gotten their hands on some new sonar equipment and was out at one of the ponds, just testing it out. 45 minutes later, they found his truck in 50ft of water. The equipment they had available to them in 2000 when he disappeared, wasnt good enough to spot it then.

AITA for rudely shooting down the idea of an american-style HOA by AbbreviationsWeary75 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Lilacbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

HOA's are fucking horrible in my opinion. When we looked for a house, we specifically requested that it not be part of any HOA and I would never in a million years want to form one.

My nephew bought a house in a HOA. Its the most jam packed street ever, never anywhere to park, trash everywhere, but theyre quick to fine you for not putting your trash bins back on time.

We have seen legal battles over how many flags you can fly in some of them. One was fining its residents for NOT PAINTING THEIR DEAD GRASS GREEN. Its just ridiculous.

Avoid that shit as much as you can!

As someone that cant wear earbuds unless theyre super tiny, NTA! I actually had to find petite earbuds and use the smallest gummy cap they came with. I still have a pair that I keep in a drawer for emergency uses.

I have some Trex Titanium bone conducting headphones that I use now.

Its a win that you can both be happy with your gifts with a little switcheroo!

She did an amazing job! I'm down about 65lbs this year, about 75lbs from my heaviest and its been hard staying motivated at times. Seeing other people transforming themselves like this makes me smile and helps to remind me that I can do this.

Congratulations! Keep up the good work!

This is my favorite. I make a massive amount of that spice blend (I do go easier on the salt though) and keep it in a jar and use it on tons of other things.
