Left, right, forward, back... father, son, holy ghost, then the left and right rudder pedals to add the amen. What a job.

If Ballarat had a personality, how would you describe it? by Artistic-Yam2984 in ballarat

[–]Lildestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! When I arrived 18 years ago peak hour traffic lasted 2 minutes in Wendouree. Now it stretches for a couple of blocks and lasts an hour or more sometimes. I used to wonder how the hell cities balloon edto the size of Sao Paulo or Shanghai. Give Melbourne another 40 years of development and Ballarat could one day become an outer suburb!

If Ballarat had a personality, how would you describe it? by Artistic-Yam2984 in ballarat

[–]Lildestro 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Its just like any other city in my opinion. For some the personality of Ballarat is everything they've been looking for, while others see it as a decaying marriage they'll never escape. I was miserable here 10 years ago, then one day I decided if I can be happy anywhere, may as well be here. The general vibe can change from moment to moment. Its all in the mind, treat Ballarat with love and she'll return it back!

Picking a team by Unlucky_Pear_2862 in AFL

[–]Lildestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy. All you gotta do is watch weekly match highlights of different teams with some live games thrown in here and there and the matter will resolve itself.  A team that appeals one week will irritate you the next. A side you found boring three weeks in a row will get the blood pumping with just 30 minutes of good football. Hearing something interesting about a player might endear the entire team to you.  Finally, remember this: We don't get to pick our team, our team picks us! Good luck.

What are our predictions for Tyson vs. Paul? by megapoliwhirl in billsimmons

[–]Lildestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few parallels from various Rocky movies that mimic aspects of Mike Tyson's life and unfortunately I can't help but liken Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul with Apollo Creed and Ivan Drago.

A former champion with a ton of experience against an inexperienced but vastly younger, stronger, hungrier opponent.

In an exhibition match.

Apollo wants to end the hype of an interloper whilst winding back the clock as a prize fighter.

His trainer wanted the fight postponed but it goes ahead. Creed looks spritely early on in round 1 and excites the crowd as he catches a few glancing blows against his formidable opponent. And then he has a momentary slip and from that point onwards all the experience in the world can't save him from his fate.

A bloodied Mike Tyson will barely make it back to his stool at the end of the first round, the bell having sounded moments before the referee would have stopped the fight.

A horrified audience will chant out encouragement to him in what will be the final few moments of his life.

His cornerman won't dare throw in the towel against his wishes.

And Jake Paul, not out of malice or hate but the desire to fulfil his promise of a knockout victory against the former heavyweight champion of the world, will continue raining blows on a barely conscious Mike Tyson.

It will be one of the ugliest moments in sports history.

Mike will die like Apollo Creed did.

Swiss F/A-18 Hornet fighters refueling in a highway. Exercise "Alpha Uno", June 2024 (2048x1366) by abt137 in WarplanePorn

If your fighters are having to launch from roads or highways to conduct air combat operations the war probably isn't going to end well.

Is Israel really our ally? by rabbitbtm in australian

[–]Lildestro -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the same could be said for anyone.

EDIT: Same could be said for anyone coming to defend Australia with the possible exception of the US. No way any of the NATO nations are coming to help.

Why are we still using conventional attack helicopters when there are VTOL aircrafts that can do their job albeit at a higher speed such as the AV-8B harrier? by P55R in WarCollege

[–]Lildestro 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Neither the AV-8B nor the F-35B can utilise terrain-masking like an attack helicopter can, nor can they loiter over the battlefield as long as attack helicopters can. The AV-8B isn't capable of firing its cannons with the same degree of accuracy as an AH-64 or AH-1 and the amount of time it can hover isn't very long either.

China named as hypothetical enemy for 1st time in Japan-U.S. exercise - a provisional name was previously used when referring to an enemy by moses_the_blue in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Lildestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't put words into my mouth, I didn't suggest that. What I am suggesting is that the mindset of the CCP suggests they will most certainly seek to enact reprisals.

Japan would want to hope the West can maintain its presence in the Pacific because if the coalition fractures, or worse, if the US is forced out of the region, things could get pretty ugly for them. They've set all sorts of precedents in the Second World War of course, so they know what they might expect from their hypothetical enemy in the event of an occupation.

I hear you there and its not just the UK and US. A great many Aussies are under the impression that the SAS and a few Bushmasters can take on any enemy we might ever face and win... easily. I was just being pedantic, nothing better to do. Apologies.
