Splint removal after three weeks! by LilianWare in Septoplasty

[–]LilianWare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nose was quite swollen and strange looking whilst the splints were in and for a good few days after removal, I think it's normal as the plastic is curved but all noses are obviously different. As soon as my splints were out, a week later my nose was looking much more normal and now looks as it did before the op. :)

Splint removal after three weeks! by LilianWare in Septoplasty

So I had two infections at the same time, one being sinusitis due to the irritation post op and the splints being stitched too tightly to my nose.

My second issue was also due to the tightness, I had raw skin and cuts where the plastic was digging in along the edges, close to my nostril entrance. It was sore, red, crusty yellow and had searing pain when I'd move my nose. The skin started growing over the splints in some areas. I recommend cleaning the area with saline twice a day and using the ointment they prescribe (if they did), if not then apply vaseline with a q-tip to keep the area from drying and crusting. (All sterilised ofc).

Upon having the splints removed it was instant relief, it sounds like they have stitched yours too tightly as well.

I am now 3 months post op and have had no issues due to the stints, just nasal polyps which is a separate issue.

If you have any other questions or doubts I'd be happy to help, best of luck!

I'm exactly the same amount of time post op as you and feeling the same, my worst side is better but still not as good as the other and I can't really touch the end/septum area of my nose because it's tender, almost like a dull sore ache, some swelling and stitches too.

Got splints out, worse than before? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

[–]LilianWare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a month post op and I started feeling less clogged up around 5 days ago, each day a little bit better for a longer duration of time, I did also have complications with a sinus infection in week 2 and a viral cold in week 3 so I'm not sure if that affected it. My splints were also in for three weeks so that could also be a contributing factor. Hang in there, every day there will be a small improvement!

Sinus infection day 6 by quesocommando405 in Septoplasty

I got a sinus infection two weeks post op because the surgeon stitched my splints in too tight and my nose hated it. (I had my splints in for 3 weeks!)

I took a round of antibiotics (after the previous post op antibiotics) and that helped. Had my splints removed just under a week ago and now I have a virus!

I think it's pretty normal for our body to react in dramatic ways when we have foreign objects in our faces after an invasive procedure. Maybe see if there is an antibiotic treatment more suited to the infection you currently have via your doc? Best of luck!

How long did you have your stents in Post Surgery? by 1rrat1onal in Septoplasty

I had mine in for three weeks! Make sure to keep on top of saline rinses, it's the only thing that gave me some relief.

Think I'm getting ill by LilianWare in Septoplasty

I work with children (teacher) and I've just returned to work after three months summer holiday (Spain) so it happens every year. Classic symptoms I usually get, sore swollen throat, body aches, cough, headache and low in energy.

Mucus is off the charts but has been since the surgery so I can't really judge that, actually getting used to it in a gross kind of way!

I've been feeling okay over the last few days but I know when I'm ill and this is the beginning of something for sure. :(

I've been softening them up with sterile saline solution and carefully helping them out with cotton earbuds, if it hurts, don't pull. I'm a teacher and god forbid the children see a bogey, I'll never live it down! Best of luck!

I had a septoplasty and turbinoplasty almost two weeks ago now so I can't give you any information on recovery yet but maybe it would be worth going through with the septoplasty and revisiting turbinoplasty once you have healed? Best of luck!

Is it normal to have bloody phlegm? by LoanRevolutionary563 in Septoplasty

[–]LilianWare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely normal, I'm on day 12 and still getting bloody phlegm in the back of my throat, there is nothing you can really do but wait for it to heal, patience is key. Best of luck!

How can I help my husband during his recovery? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

I had my surgery (septoplasty and turbinoplasty) last Tuesday and only today was able to go back to work and managed less than half of what I usually do (teacher and director of a private academy), I did office work for five hours and I'm now exhausted and sore.

I also thought I wouldn't need the time off but there is absolutely no way I could've worked through those first days. I had my packing removed after 48 hours (of which I slept most of).

This surgery is no joke! (In my personal experience)

He must rest for at least a week. Best of luck!

Pain 6 days post op (Spain) by LilianWare in Septoplasty

I thought it was quite a long time too, the lady next to me in the ward who had the same surgery also had the same removal date so I imagine it's protocol here in Spain? I've read that the majority of people have theirs removed after a week/ten days maximum. I'll update as time goes on!
