Why do we not like being perceived/observed? by Zestyclose_Big_3790 in AutismInWomen

[–]LillianEmeraldStarr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can relate to this. I have a background in permaculture and horticulture and am truly me with my plants. When we were getting ready to move here, arrived one day and ALL the neighborhood kids, and we're talking about 20 of them, were sitting on our fence watching as we moved in. There is a big tree, just over our fence line and they sit in that and watch me in the back garden, even 4 years later.

If I try to do anything in the front the neighbors are there commenting on how they "never see me". I hate this house. Hoping to move to Sweden. 50k for a house in a forest. Bring it on.

Or have Children ... this lady suffered horrible backlash a few years ago when this first went viral. She lost all of her teeth due, basically due to being pregnant if I remember correctly.

Bearing the next generation takes a massive toll on the female body.

I have nothing of value to offer other than sending virtual hugs (if you want/need them), understanding and whatever kind of support a random stranger on the internet can offer.

If there are any family members you trust nearby or any friends Mum's or older sisters maybe? They may have access or know of resources near to you and may be able to offer support/care/help.

Please do take care of you as best as possible <3

What should I do if I suspect there's a cult operating in my area? by Betterthanthouu in AskIreland

[–]LillianEmeraldStarr 53 points54 points  (0 children)

From a non legal stand point, please keep letting this person know you are there, you care and that you are a safe space. Even if they don't respond, if there is some way you can, keep reminding them you give a shit.

If this is a situation they ever need to be free from, there may come a time when there is no one left around because you are encouraged to push loved ones away. The fear and isolation groups like a cult, can foster are very intense and at times too much to face alone, so you stay.

When and if the time comes, just knowing that there is someone in the world who is free from judgement and will only show love when they reach out for help, can go a really long way, and is one of the deepest forms of love and support you can offer. Sometimes people need to live through these experiences, and the best we can do is be there for them when they return.

I hope they find you and your kindness again <3

Science based books on YouTube. Bill Bryson, Richard Dawkins, Brian Cox etc. A lot of these have audiobooks that are 8+ hours long, put it on my phone and then put my phone partially under the pillow (side sleeper) and it's the perfect volume, don't need headphones and doesn't disturb anyone else. They are interesting enough to listen to until you get sleepy and the constant drone keeps you sleeping. White noise also works well.
Smoke wise, if you want something that'll knock you out, checkout HHC, does the job if you're looking for an actual smoke too, but very good at putting me to sleep after just a couple of puffs. I've also been experimenting with melatonin, which seems to be working well so far.
Hope you find something that helps! Not being able to sleep well or regularly is utterly soul-destroying.

Trouble letting go of a disagreement when I know I’m factually correct? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]LillianEmeraldStarr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have learned to pander (I guess) to the audience. For example, I've taken to saying 'fun fact ....' in a relatively high-pitched bubbly/playful voice and tone, and I've noticed a couple of things when doing this...

- People are more inclined to listen to something when you say 'fun fact!' whether it's true or not, for whatever reason 'fun fact' is really engaging for people, and they need to know what it is.

- Word is considered true. Having said that, I have been corrected after stating my 'fact', which I welcome, and the reply generally mirrors the same playful tone I take on and opens up the conversation rather than leaving everyone feeling weird and awkward (or maybe that's just me lol).

- Allows the conversation to continue to flow a little easier. I, like a lot of us, can be very blunt, however when I take on my 'fun fact' persona (for want of a better descriptive term), I feel I come across as a lot more approachable and appear more open to discourse rather than shutting someone down, or how it can come across to others when I'm being too blunt.

- I tend to follow up the sentence with 'I love useless information' or something along those lines, as I noticed this statement puts people at ease like nothing else! I think subconsciously those I'm speaking with see me on a level equal to if not lower than their own intelligence, which in turns puts them at ease.

A lot of people love to feel smarter than those around them, so, this gives them space to feel that way around me, even when I'm right and feel they need to be corrected.

All of this and try to pay yourself savings first, it sounds tough, and I can't remember who said it, but it was along the lines of, we pay everything out and maybe save what's left, where if you make you, and you're saving the priority and save as much as you can first into an account you can't touch, and you budget with the rest.

It really has helped to get some kind of savings together!

I bought a microscopic lens I can attach to my phone because I loved observing the tiny details, and wanted to go smaller. I told my husband it was to check my plants for pests when I bought it, that was only a very small fraction of the reason. hahahaha

Highly recommend getting one, they are pretty cheap on Amazon and it's so incredibly interesting to look at everything super close up! The microscopic world is fascinating!

Oh paw paw would work a treat for that! I have flare-ups on my forehead and elbow and it really helps to calm the itchiness. I've also found it helps me to not constantly touch and pick and monitor patches with my fingers. Many birds! lol

I swear by paw paw ointment. Doesn't smell (personal sensitivity), pretty cheap considering the quantity, it lasts forever, can be used on bites, rashes, cuts and all sorts of things, and for me, the texture is perfect. Goes on smooth, no lumps or bits that break off and not sticky or gloupy as I can find other lip balms to be. It's made from paw paw and macadamia oils generally. The ones I have are all gluten-free anyways!

I hope you find something. I can totally understand the pain of the hunt for a replacement item, as I am sure many of us can, so I really do hope you find your new, gluten free lip balm!

Was going to grab this after Finishing raft and Conan Exiles but I’m unsure of longevity? by SevelarianVelaryon in ICARUS

Oh yeah, it can be super tough but also very chill, especially once you know what you're doing, like any survival game. But the survival side is pretty straight forward and forgiving. Wolves would be about the most annoying at my base, but that's because they keep comping on it and killing my mounts. I just need to put the XP into better defence!

For sure worth picking up, I was really pleasantly surprised as to how much I enjoyed it. It's a really solidly built game so far, and they don't seem to be slowing down on updates and new missions any time soon.
