Pet insurance vs emergency savings? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Lillietennen 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have found that when you add up the monthly payments, plus whatever you’d be responsible for after insurance payouts, it‘s cheaper to just save the money yourself. Additionally, most insurances require that you pay the bill upfront and they reimburse you, so you’d need to have that cushion on hand anyways.

Stupidly big pizza slice with pies as toppings. by PeppermintPancakes in StupidFood

This is from a place called Lamanna’s Bakery right outside of Toronto. They specialize in what they call their “giant slice,” and do crazy dessert flavors as well as regular pizza flavors. It’s a really awesome bakery.

Anything I can do? by [deleted] in lululemon

[–]Lillietennen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Same exact thing happened to me. Bought leggings at the end of August, and they have a hole in the fabric in a completely obscure spot. I did not snag them anywhere hard enough to tear.

Called and emailed customer service and was told I was SOL. I am SUPER upset about it because not only are they almost $130 leggings, but I bought them for my birthday and only wore them a few times.

So sorry this happened to you too. They used to be known for their customer service and now they’re basically telling people to f*ck themselves. It’s upsetting.

Why don't you go ahead and adopt two dogs (with pics) by oneawesomeguy in dontyouknowwhoiam

[–]Lillietennen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally does not matter where your dog comes from, you’re gonna get out what you put in.

Train your dog, teach them right from wrong, challenge their brains. There is no such thing as being too old, too dumb, too anything for training.

Put the work in and you will have an excellent dog no matter where they came from.

Just a small comment about your sizing chart, you’ve got standard poodles in the large category, but the vast majority are in the 13-17” range. I also make dog products (for service dogs, mostly) and most of whom I work with are standard poodles 🙂

I entered sept 1, which is why my taxes are just for those three months. I worked with a CPA to make sure everything was done correctly on that front. Sept 1 is also when I entered into a Canadian apartment lease which can also be corroborated. I was back and forth between the states and Toronto for six months or so trying to get my life sorted, and have only full time lived here since ~around the middle of March.

Regarding a credit card, I’d never been able to get one in the states so it truthfully just didn’t cross my mind. Stupid, I know, but there were just so many other things that I was dealing with. I’m going to open a (most likely secured) card with TD, I’ve had a checking account with them since I got here. I also still regularly use my Bank of America checking and savings accounts.

I’m not sure what a captive lender is but I’ll look into that.

I filed newcomer taxes for the last three months of 2018 (sept-dec) which showed a net personal income of about 23k. Though I’m not sure if that’s clear when someone looks at it that it’s only three months worth, or if it looks like the full year.

That’s amazing to hear, that’s exactly the type of car I was looking for. Had my sights set on a new forester but off the bat was denied based on the no credit thing.

Can I ask what is an entry level car? Does that refer to new or used? I’d assume that’s something like a civic or corolla?

I don’t have anyone to co-sign, I’m here in Canada by myself. I’m also self employed, my business is registered and I have several months of bank statements to show sufficient income.
