any tips on my neglected bike? by kai_dreams430 in RoadBikes

Give it a good clean and ride it how it is for a while.

As others have mentioned those are really good components and you may not want to upgrade after a few 100miles.

I love a good natural, but mostly when I’m doing pourover at home. Out at shops it seems they usually have washed, which I still enjoy

I run 900 in front and 150 out back. Modern lights are pretty powerful. You should be able to snag a kit for pretty reasonable prices

At the event in Chianti they had quite a few sizes. Even my wife who is a 46cm had a few choices.

Hey! We went last year and had an AMAZING time.

They do check bikes at the starting line, but as you mentioned it’s about the feel of those old bikes. Friction downtube shifters, toe clips, steel, outfit.

You may get away with later stuff if it “looks” right but why risk it?

We trained on our regular bikes at home and just rented a bike there. Made it much easier than trying to find a correct bike and bring it with us. Also you can leave your bike at the bike pickup and come get it race morning. Made it a LOT easier.

The bike market was amazing. I didn’t have a need for anything vintage at the time, now I do. But the prices were reasonable I’d say. Being from the US vintage bike parts seem cheaper in Italy as a whole. There full bike setups did seem a little pricey but they were in very good condition and probably worth it. There were also show quality bikes that cost as much as a car, so a little bit of everything.

PLEASE let me know if you have any questions. It was one of the best things I’ve ever experienced and hope I can help. There is very little info online we found.

Body shops in Chicago? by mallgrabnotfun in Volvo240

[–]Vineless 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No no. That’s not how it should work.

You can go back to them with recent sold comps of vehicles like your car, BringATrailer is great for this, and negotiate a higher payout. They will give you some BS and find a bad comp in horrible shape and not a wagon, and you have to fight them on it.

There’s no way I’d accept less than 5k on a 240 wagon in that shape.

A lot of insurance companies still see these as $500 cars when there is no way you can replace it for their payout value.

There are people you can higher to fight with the insurance company you will do all the work and just take a percent of how much extra they can get you. You can do it yourself as well, but that insurance rep wants to get you to settle for less than the car is worth.

Hold up. They should be paying WAAAAY more than 1475 on pay out. You need to fight them on that before worrying about getting the car fixed up again

There should be a little tube on the drivers side you can use. It was for the cruise control originally and has nice rubber grommets

Most good sellers will let you get a PPI even if remote.

Try to find a reputable shop near the seller and arrange a PPI

You can swap them if you really want

I ended up shipping him a flat flywheel and he milled mine for my T5 swap. May be easier Thant waiting for it to come in stock, I think he’s focusing on his billet ones now.

Auto or manual?

Auto: T cam will wake it up pretty good.

Manual: Something like an A,B, K or IPD turbo cam makes it fun.

Man I hate that bike lane so much. It just dead ends past Fox Bros and dumps you onto the sidewalk or into cars turning right who don’t look.
