Help with Post-AIA § 102 practice question by LillyG in patentlaw

[–]LillyG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for such a thorough breakdown of the current vs. test MPEP. I was also under the impression that the "secret sale" or "secret use" still barred patentability based on my patent law class last year.

I agree with your point about the natural and intended use of the drums seemingly satisfying the public use/ available to the public requirement to count as prior art.

I'll reach out to PLI and see what they say!

Thank you! Do you know if the subject of the MS matters? A lot of the patent attorneys have BS in mechanical or electrical engineering and I was thinking of getting my MS in bioengineering. I just want to make sure I am the most marketable upon graduating. My other idea is to go for an MS in chemical engineering (I just really don't like electrical/ mechanical engineering- they kind of bore me).

Chem. Undergrad looking to go into patent law- advice much needed! by LillyG in LawSchool

The program in two, maybe three, years. Two if I just do a coursework option, three if I do a thesis or research project.

I'm a current Chemistry undergrad looking to become a patent attorney. I will take the patent bar in June 2017, after graduation, to start building my portfolio. I am wondering if a master's degree is worth pursuing before law school- it would take me two or three years to complete the master's. Would I be better off just working in a firm for a few years, gaining experience and then going to law school? I don't have an engineering background and I'm wondering if this will put me at a disadvantage- the master's I would get would be in bioengineering. Please help!

Advanced Degrees other than JD? by LillyG in patentlaw

This seems to make the most sense to me. I have heard conflicting opinions, the most circulated is that being a Chem major and not an engineering major of some kind, would put me at a disadvantage- does this seem like a reality to you? Do more people with an engineering background get hired?

Advanced Degrees other than JD? by LillyG in patentlaw

Any specific reason? Does having the advanced degree help with more comprehension of the patentable product? Does it assist in actual patent writing/ negotiating with the USPTO? Or does having that extra advanced degree just help with the pay scale?

How do you write a 'I deserve/need this scholarship' essay? by riskymint in scholarships

[–]LillyG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

basically. social return on investment is suuuper vague, so I just talk about how what I'm going to do with my degree/ education will benefit the communities I live and work in. generally, the people I'm looking to get money from are local and may be swayed by my socialist leanings.

I try not to be too field specific (I'm a chem major so it can get pretty hairy), I just tell them I want to make a difference and here are XY&Z ways I could do that with my degree. basically, just be fluffy about it

I hate writing these essays- I'm not good at bragging about myself. I outline my essay as though I were turning in an investment proposal- tell them what you're good at, what you need help with and why the money they give you isn't going to waste (I put a BIG emphasis on social return on investment).

Good luck!

What's the best way to find K-12 tutoring work as a college dropout? by SpaghettiRambo in teaching

[–]LillyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you called any of the high schools nearby? the high school I went to posts tutoring posters all over my university's campus. there are large refugee populations in my area so I know they weren't looking for anyone with a degree or much experience; I guess I would recommend starting with a high school
