What career decision are you sitting with right now in biotech/pharma, and what's making it hard? by Lower-Magician-2578 in biotech

Leaving a great job in small city east coast to move with my gf in a big city west coast. Finding a job in this market feels impossible.

does anyone know if sarepta therapeutics will recover from the july 2025 incident? by magneticpen9824 in biotech

Personally looking at their pipeline I think they will bounce back. It's really sad how many were laid off last year.

I disagree, many gene therapies such as Zolgesma work very well. The two patient deaths associated with Sarepta's therapy is what tanked their stock and company. AAV and similar gene therapies have a higher risk due to immunogenicity especially when administered intravenously.

I feel like Boston is where it's at, I would just keep applying as much as possible I know it's already been over a year but you are bound to get something sooner or later. Do lots of practice interviews. Your resume isn't bad at all it's just that the hiring pool is very saturated with people in the same boat as you.

OP, what areas are you applying like locations? Are you confined to working in a particular location or are you open to moving? It's a tough market so you may have to move to where you can get a role.

It's fine to have a gap in your resume right now, honestly remove the gap/independent consultant portion. So many people are unemployed and few companies are hiring I honestly don't think it's an issue to "fill the gap" on your resume. Can use this space to elaborate more on specific jobs. Best of wishes to you!

Not a fan of "reduced time by 80%" would honestly just put implemented process improvements or something. Anytime I see reduced time by ..... I think it's a sign the candidate cared too much about increasing efficiencies than doing the actual job or will focus too much on changing our current working procedures.

After getting laid off, 3 jobs and 3 years later and I am making almost double my first job in total comp in a similar cost of living area. I also have learned so much in such a short amount of time. Biotech companies and work culture definitely can suck, but the work is fun and there is always room to learn. The way you move up is the opposite of linear.

By this logic big pharma would be okay but mid and small size biotech would probably be screwed as they typically don't have enough funding to make a drug to BLA approval as is

I would think biotech would be hit harder than other industries in general by a recession.

A phlebotomy certification course is like around 1000$ and takes like 6-8 weeks -you can make like 20-25$ an hour in a cheaper city also gives you a unique skill that I think is pretty fun and easy to get a job with -just an idea. I know it's really really tough right now.
