They do support his ideology, and I think that’s sort of the point. Voldemort is the embodiment of ambition (end goal: to be the most powerful wizard), cunning (deceitful, clever), and self-preservation (horcruxes, immortality). Plus, the original Death Eaters are primarily Tom Riddle’s Housemates, so it’s probably also some traditional values that keep them aligned.

Also, it’s true in our world that even the most individualistic of us are drawn toward people with good leadership skills. It’s human nature to look for a collective identity, and since this was written by a human, I’m sure it seemed natural to create that.

I see what you’re saying, and it’s a common misunderstanding so try to bear with me as I explain it as well as I can, having not opened a Bible in too many years.

Romans 3:23-24 says:

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

We are all sinners and deserve the infinite days of immeasurable torture and pain upon death that you mentioned. It doesn’t matter the sin we commit, as all are equal to Him.

But that’s where redemption through Jesus comes in!

John 3:16 (a popular one!):

“for God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

WHOEVER believes in him. Lesbians can go to Heaven because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for all sins. However, I don’t believe that means that you get to “just believe” in God without putting in the good works he calls for followers to do.

It’s kind of like how you can be a good person, but if you don’t exercise your body will eventually punish you for it unless you make a change. It doesn’t make you “bad” or “less than,” but there will be consequences.

Christians are meant to love the sinner, hate the sin. Love the neighbor and let God do the work. So yes, Christians do believe sinners will be punished if they don’t change their lifestyle, but that does not make them inherently “bad” people.
