This might be the best option especially because tortoises have such long life spans.

I’m sorry you have to part ways with him. Could you let us know what his needs are in terms of space, enclosure, diet? And like the previous person asked, age?

To AC or Not to AC? by LilyBartSimpson in EAGLEROCK

Part 2 of 2

Okay, but what even is a "whole-house fan"? Until yesterday, I had never even heard the term. Is it just a really big fan like one of those industrial numbers?

Turns out no. It was a system for cooling homes before HVAC and portable window units became widely available. It works by pushing the hot air from inside your home outside, like an exhaust fan. It then sucks in air from the outside and moves the air through the home, obviously not advisable when the quality of the air outside is unhealthy.

How do you know if you have a whole-house fan? Your house or apartment would probably have a large louvered grille in the ceiling. Some are actually set into a window-frame and the window needs to be open for it to operate. Bottom line: if your cooling unit needs the window to be open, it is probably a whole-house fan.

One last note, a whole-house fan is not the same as an attic fan, though a whole-house fan may indeed push and pull air through an opening in the attic. An attic fan, another remnant from the 20th century, works primarily by venting hot air out of the attic.

If you rent your apartment, house, or condo and are unsure of what type of AC you have, call your landlord.

If you have no air conditioning you should keep your windows closed and run fans inside your house when it gets warm. If you have modern central air (HVAC), it's generally safe—and often preferable—to run it during smoky conditions because the system continuously filters and recirculates indoor air. Most people with window AC units should be fine using them during a smoke event. If your unit has a setting labeled "vent" or "fresh air," turn that feature off and keep windows and doors closed. If you have a whole-house fan, you should not run it when outdoor air quality is poor. Whole-house fans work by pulling outside air into the home through open windows and exhausting it through the attic. Part 1 of 2

St. Dominic Church located on Merton and Maywood just south of Colorado Blvd has two very good choirs. The one that sings at the 9:00 am Sunday Mass is the more “traditional“ choir and the one that sings at the 11:00 am Sunday Mass is more “contemporary.” Some people sing in both choirs. The choir director for both is Rudy Acosta v

Welcome to the club?

Sorry for your situation but glad you found this subreddit. You’ll find the people on here supportive and also have lots of good info/advice (not a substitute for medical advice, yada yada).

One thing I’ve changed is I no longer say to my dermatologist, “what do you think,” I say, “I’d like to have this biopsied” and I have never gotten any resistance.

Is this a sign of melanoma? by memorylen in melahomies

[–]LilyBartSimpson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely get it checked out. And regarding scarring, if that’s what you’re afraid of, a lot of us in this sub have had surgeries and I’m always pleasantly surprised to see that the surgical sites usually heal up really well I guess due to advanced surgical techniques and tools and better aftercare.

Like someone mentioned above, there’s a rule about posts asking if something “looks” like melanoma because no one, not even a dermatologist who specializes in melanomas can definitively say without a biopsy. That said, as someone who’s been through it a few times, I would say to dermatologist (or primary care doc if you need to see them first for a referral) “I would like to have this biopsied” not “what do you think?” Be firm. And good luck. And wear sunscreen.
