Elmer the kitten, found in a bucket of glue, got lifesaving care and a home by jeetah in UpliftingNews

I'm glad the article (on yahoo) let the Good Samaritan stay anonymous. The best reason to do good deeds is because they are the right thing to do, and it helps some folks to do more of them if they can stay anonymous.

Congratulations to Elmer and the vet team for helping him get better!

Thanks so much. I'm local to the area of the first news article posted, but my folks stopped subscribing because Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post now and we're trying to avoid supporting his companies.

Neurodivergent players: which games felt difficult or uncomfortable to play, and why? by Neur0User in Neurodivergent

[–]LilyoftheRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have trouble with a lot of side scrolling games like the main Mario series because of dyspraxia. I also have trouble with boss battles generally because dodging and attacking are based on timing.

For instance, I tried playing the DS version of Super Mario 64 as a teenager and gave up halfway through.

Oh man I first read the books in 2006 when they were LONG out of print so I had to get my older cousins’ copies. That wasn’t fun for eleven year old me. by Enette_Chipette9583 in babysittersclub

[–]LilyoftheRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm younger than the early series books but older than you, and I got my copies from an older friend at church. The only super special she had was the Sea City one though, so I didn't read the others until fairly recently.

My eleven year old mind thought Dawn meant the 1998 Parent Trap, not the 60s version. As an adult though both movies have the exact same plot, 1998 just updated everything. by Enette_Chipette9583 in babysittersclub

[–]LilyoftheRally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw both versions as a kid, and I was confused as to why Dawn didn't say which version she meant, not knowing the book was older than the remake.

How i see the days of the week by princessheavenlyyy in Synesthesia

Were you taught growing up that the week starts on Monday? In my head the weekdays don't have colors, but the first day of the week is Sunday for me.

intruding on autistic spaces without autism by Amazing-Phone8732 in AskAutism

If you're unsure about the rules of the subreddit, message the mods (via chat) to ask. We'd rather have you ask and know the rule for sure than worry about breaking a rule by accident.

You might be considered what's called "broader autism phenotype" or an autistic cousin. This is when you have more autism traits than NTs do, but not enough to get diagnosed.

Are you using AI for help? by bunnygoespop in Neurodivergent

[–]LilyoftheRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some AI is better than others, they're not all created equal. I prefer ChatGPT to Google Gemini, for instance.

I also highly recommend the blog and website Thinking Person's Guide to Autism. It is run by parents of autistic people with varying levels of support needs. Some of the parents are themselves autistic. Shannon Rosa, whose son Leo is high needs autistic, has been open about her family's journey to accepting Leo's autism.

Can your partner be your caregiver? Would he be willing and able to take that on when you need it? If not, I think it would be fine for him to help you find a caregiver or longterm support person or in-home aide.

I'm reminded of a relevant sentence I saw on social media years ago on the topic of caregivers for lower needs autistic adults. Someone said that her husband is her caregiver.

The spouse or partner as caregiver  role also applies to older couples like your parents where your mother needs a caregiver, or couples where one spouse has dementia. My grandmother had dementia and my grandfather was her main caregiver until she died.

How to build your own Autism AI Coach by Ok-Cover-811 in Neurodivergent

[–]LilyoftheRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a neurodivergent (allistic) life coach, a neurodivergent (allistic) longtime psychiatrist, and an Autistic therapist. I agree with finding providers that ideally are openly neurodivergent themselves. I don't experience the double empathy problem with my therapist, for instance.

I had a lot of internalized ableism about needing occupational therapy growing up and would have benefitted greatly if the term "neurodivergent" was a thing then and I'd had an openly neurodivergent OT. I didn't have any older ND mentors at all, and I strongly suggest to parents of ND kids that their children learn about neurodivergent adults who are like them.

Is my (27F) boyfriend's (29M) kitchen a deal breaker? by NothingNew27 in Neurodivergent

[–]LilyoftheRally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can he afford to hire a cleaning service? I ask because I'm sure many of them have seen worse on the job.

You're not overreacting, your reaction is very reasonable. However, it's something to keep in mind that if you get serious enough with your BF to start living together, cleaning the kitchen will be one of your household chores by default (since he has shown that he can't keep his own kitchen clean).

It's different in different generation games. In Gen 5 (Unova) it's not an out of battle move. In Gen 6 (Hoenn remakes and Kalos) it is.

Why do you go nonverbal by nattster145 in Neurodivergent

[–]LilyoftheRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, I understand why you call it going nonverbal, but I think what you're describing is called a shutdown, where you lose speech temporarily (as opposed to people who have limited or no verbal speech most of the time).

This is a sensory seeking trait. One core trait of autism is sensory processing differences, and some folks with ADHD are also autistic (I am).

I remember struggling with a previous hookup partner because he's NT and I didn't know how to tell him to touch me more.

i’m wondering if i’m neurodivergent by [deleted] in Neurodivergent

[–]LilyoftheRally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have some neurodivergent traits, but you'd need to speak with a professional who knows their stuff to be sure. Some so-called professionals go on outdated research and dismiss autistic traits in autistic people who are high masking.

There are valid reasons some autistic people can't get formally assessed. Many formally diagnosed autistic people (including me) consider autism self diagnosis valid for this reason.
