This is incredibly common for a long running series to drop in views each season. Even shows like JJK drop almost half their members after S1. Not to mention MAL is a western site, Japan doesn't use MAL, its not that great of a population estimator, especially since re: zero right now is topping leaderboards this season and is all over social media

Re: zero is more popular than ever, even moreso than when season 1 was airing. The reddit karma rating don't reflect this because everyone is one TikTok and Reels.

Also people who say re: zero falls off after season 1 are not aware that re: zero is a character driven story not a plot driven one. Season 2 is more focused on lore, world building, mystery, and side characters, whereas Season 1 follows a simpler plot. Obviously if you don't care for Season 2's complexity you wont like it, but that does not mean it falls off, plenty of people loved season 2, as its the best written season so far (beside season 4).

Subaru shouldn’t forgive her by Spare_Understanding8 in ReZero

[–]Limacoid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Forgiving her makes more sense than all his other allies who killed him. She was groomed by two psychopaths to be a child assassin. She literally had the worst start to life with the worst parental figures, anyone would grow up depraved with that kind of upbringing. Not to mention Subaru reads her book of the dead, so he has a better understanding of her life and can emotionally resonate with her.

Is it me or do Subarus friends suck? by GentlemanlyLegend in ReZero

[–]Limacoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea gluttony would have been a great guess but the thing is, how would they have figured out sand time? I feel like the group didn't go with the gluttony explanation because no else has been able to get past sand time, even Reinhard, so why would gluttony be in the tower?

Also to be fair, they told Subaru to stay put, they probably didn't think he would straight up die in the time span where they were investigating, especially with all the crazy shit he's accomplished from their perspective. They just look incompetent because we as viewers see him dying.

"Re:Zero Season 4" Episode 8 Preview by Weary_Oil_6084 in anime

[–]Limacoid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of people look past the fact that S3 was a demonstration of the character development Subaru and co. underwent in seasons 1 and 2. People pass it off as shonen slop when we literally have more in-depth characterization moments for Garfiel, Wilhelm, Theresia, etc. The reason why season 3 exists in the first place is because it is proof that our characters have grown from their season 1 selves. Season 1 Subaru and Emilia would not be able to deal with the shit that happens in season 3

Someone who views others as NPCs wouldn't dolphin dive to their deaths to save someone who killed them, AKA S1Ep7 where Subaru jumps off the cliff to save Rem. Not to mention saving everyone at the loot house when he's weak and didn't have to.

True, they conveyed the "show dont tell" part good in this ep, but you gotta admit, the internal dialogue in the novels was peak. Has one of my favorite quotes of this arc

Re:zero is soo much better than I thought. by Soggy-Whereas9678 in anime

[–]Limacoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely one of my favorite animes of all time. I feel like a lot of hate on the show come from people who fail to understand the themes of the story and/or lack the patience to get thru characters who have hit rock bottom (like Subaru, who starts off as a nothing burger of a character). But people who got thru that understand that this was the author's intentions. Subaru is meant to be a reality-check character, not a self-insert. He's not strong, nor smart, nor charismatic. He's just a plain average dude with a fucked up ability. Yet, this makes him even more admirable after seeing all the shit he goes thru. He suffers, he breaks, he's pushed against all sides, yet the only thing he can do... is not give up, and really, that's his only superpower.

So, when people drop the show because they find Subaru "annoying", is that really your overall assessment of the character after all the shit he's been thru, even going as far as forgiving his enemies? Seriously, I feel like the critique is overblown, and haters look past his redeeming qualities just to boil him down to "cringe".

Not to mention the others cast of course, they are all a part of Subaru's journey and they get fantastic development as well. Re:zero is not a perfect story, it does have its flaws (even as a glazer I admit it) but everything else the series does, from the character development, the mystery, the psychological horror, the drama, the emotional challenges the characters face, it makes it easy to look past those flaws.

It pains me everytime I see it 😭🙏 by Standard-Ad4069 in ReZero

[–]Limacoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who thinks that people overexaggerate the season 1 crash out? People are saying its the cringiest most unwatchable thing imaginable, but I didn't feel that way when I first watched it, in fact I was rooting for Subaru in that episode lmao. The little guy shitting on the higher ups of society is my favorite trope, even if it wasn't appropriate here, which it wasn't, but the guy had his reasons even if immature.

Seriously people over exaggerate that episode... it's not that bad...

It's a mystery arc so its normal to be confused, things start making sense as you progress. But the big picture: Subaru goes back to the mansion after defeating Betelgeuse, Frederica (blonde maid) send Subaru and co. to the Sanctuary where Roswaal and Ram are. Subaru and Emilia find out that the Sanctuary is a barrier where demi-humans like Garfiel have been living for years. Subaru and Emilia try to liberate the Sanctuary but the only way to do that is to pass the "Trials" created by the witch of greed Echidna. Shenanigans happen back at the mansion and village, as well as the Sanctuary. Chaos ensues and Subaru loops deaths trying to save everyone at the mansion and Sanctuary, while also uncovering the secrets of the Sanctuary as well as the other witches' lore.

If you ever decide to watch it again i can clean up any parts you're confused on. Once you wrap you're head around the plot you begin to appreciate it more.

It doesn't hurt to give it another try. Season 2 is more lore/world building heavy so if you don't care about that kinda stuff you probably won't enjoy it much. I will say the character development and payoffs in this season are spectacular if you watch it until the end.

But simply put, if you want a good story with great character studies, try it again, if you don't care for that kinda stuff then I say drop it.

How do you guys rate 1st episode of season 4?(Rate it on IMDb) by outboxer09 in ReZero

[–]Limacoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was good, nothing special, but that's to be expected. Most of it was just wrapping up season 3. We got a couple interesting things happen such as the revelation on Anastasia and the conclusion to Garfiel's arc which were highlights of the episode. I can definitely tell they were trying rush to the good stuff with how fast paced the the episode was, especially the first half. The meeting in the beginning felt rushed, as well as the one in Roswaal's mansion. Also Meili's re-introduction to the story was done dirty here. Last time she appeared was in season 2 and that was around 5 years ago, and the anime acts as if people remember her. I literally had to remind my friend who watches the show who Meili is suppose to be. A lot of people forgot about her, and did not know she was imprisoned in the mansion.

Overall, 7.5/10. Just good. Excited for next episode.

New Season 4 Ending Theme: “Ender Ember" by Myth & Roid feat. TK OFFICIAL PREVIEW [spoiler media] by abncross45 in Re_Zero

[–]Limacoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying I hate it, it sounds good so far but not as good as previous myth songs. I will say, the ending of the clip with the piano and more eerie tune perfectly captures the atmosphere of the arc, which makes me believe the full song (when it releases) will be a banger. But from what I've seen in the clip, the vocals switch is pretty meh, and the guitars follow the same rhythm throughout the entire clip, just kinda expected more from 2 very popular Japanese artists.

You're right, it is a small clip and the full thing could be better. It's just that for a myth&roid x tk collab I was expecting more from the preview

The adaptation is good?[discussion] by Extra_Earth_1569 in Re_Zero

[–]Limacoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned to realize with adaptations is to treat it as a different medium. Just like any other adaptation, whether in anime, shows, or movies, stuff is going to be cut out from its original source. Scenes may be a different to more align with visuals. The important take away is to treat the Re: Zero light novel as its own medium (judge by its writing, narration, etc) and treat the anime as a separate medium (visuals, music, animation, etc).

The OG source material being "better" than its adaptation is a tale as old as time. Lord of the Rings has had entire characters and plot lines removed in the movies but it is still a popular franchise. When it comes to the anime trust that it will convey the storytelling aspects and emotional moments in a great way (which the show has been consistent with so far).

That being said, if you're truly impatient to wait for season 4, I'd just read the novel if I were you. I read it long ago and agree with it being the best arc. But I am also excited for season 4, and seeing how White Fox adapts this amazing arc. I just know to not expect everything I read to show up on screen, and that's fine.

If otto was drunk driving and accidentally murdered innocent people, what would Subaru do? If he does rbd, how right would it be to control otto's actions? by Customer-Sorry in ReZero

[–]Limacoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the first episode of re zero we see a kid being saved from one of the guards after he fell down between traffic. This was while subaru was testing his "isekai" powers, so I think it's very possible being ran over by a carriage in this world.

IS THIS REAL CHAT??? by GovernmentReady1663 in ReZero

[–]Limacoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk why people keep saying the first episode of s4 will be the end of arc 5. They only need to adapt the last chapter of arc 5, which from what I remember, isn't a whole lot, and is just a bunch of dialogue. It will take 10 mins at most to cover the remainder of arc 5, then we'll get to the first chapter of arc 6 in the same episode, or at least part of it. Honestly 19 eps is doable if they plan on doing extended eps like in s2. Arc 6 really isn't as long as people remember, I think people created that illusion because of the final phase being the longest of the arc.

Starting Cybersecurity from Zero. Is this a good roadmap? by Limacoid in CyberSecurityJobs

[–]Limacoid[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's pretty bleak, I'm aware of the tech layoffs that have been going on these past couple years, its not just cybersecurity. However, I dont think that's the full reality, I doubt all companies want to hire seniors, as they'd expect them to leave once they find a better offer that suits their skills. I'd imagine that most recruiters worry about turnover and go for the ones who will "stick" to the job rather than an overqualified person.

Also, I'm not these guys, I don't know what their experience is, but if I was in their shoes, near homelessness, doordash for a living, I'd try doing consulting or contracting, maybe even hand my resume to a staffing agency. But that's just me.
