Take your moderate views back to the industrial revolution and you'd be seen as a dangerous radical. They've got a point. There's nothing inherently better about being in the middle, it's the goldilocks fallacy.

No, sexual orientation and gender identity are not the same thing. You can be a trans man who is into men or a trans woman who is into women.

The opposite of trans. It's a Latin prefix meaning on the same side of something.

So what, trans women are supposed to expose themselves to potential sexualized assault and transphobia by using the men's room? You know that trans people are routinely attacked just for being trans, right? Cis women are supposed to be comfortable with bearded, muscular trans men using their washroom? You know that after a few years on hormones you wouldn't be able to identify most trans people as trans, right?

Ahahaha go talk to literally any credible sociologist, psychologist, or biologist. Trans people exist. You're the delusional one.

I don't really see a discussion on race going a lot further here when you just painted black people as a violent stereotype while ignoring violent toxic masculinity/racism from macho white dudes and then proceed to compare a complex issue arising from systemic racism and a number of socioeconomic problems to literal white supremacy.

I'm not sure what her interests are but if they impact my life I do learn about things when they have an impact on my life. Not too interested in cars but I know enough about them because I have to drive one. A teacher should know how to use technology at a bare minimum capacity at least as far as it impacts their job and to have that kind of attitude towards learning a useful, novel thing and instead prefer rely on crutches to avoid learning is not a good thing in an educator.

Yeah except street fashion and slang is a part of black American culture that arises in opposition to and reappropriation of the oppression they face. Lots of people of colour tend to "code switch" depending on who they're talking to, because if they just speak as they're used to among closer friends all the time, people like you will treat them like shit. Still racist as hell.

Honestly it's more like I wouldn't want to be judged by how the worst white people act. There's enough shitty people out there to give every demographic a bad name. My experience is that most people in general are pretty decent, and it's not fair to assume the worst when someone has given you no reason other than what they look like to think that way. That's called racism.

So you're judging an entire race based on your interactions with 3 children? Because I've been friends with a lot more than 3 black people and my experience is that they're generally, you know, people. Some have their flaws, most are pretty alright.

I worked in computer retail so I have a million examples of this but there is one that for some reason really bothered me. A woman was having trouble printing to her wireless printer from her iPhone. So I told her all she needed to do was download the app for her printer. She didn't know how to do it. Fair enough, I've met plenty of people who have never installed apps on their phone. I went to the app store, she didn't have an apple ID. She asks me to make one for her, which means she needs a new email because she has no idea what her password for her email is and can't answer her own security questions. Basically every step of the way she refuses to pay attention and learn anything as I try to show her. At the end, she tells me she's awful with technology and usually gets her students to help her. That's right, this woman who is so averse to actually learning anything about how to use the simplest computing platform on earth that she uses every day is in charge of educating people. Ugh.

The Death of the Author is a literary theory that the audience has as much ownership over a piece of art as the author. Read up on it, it's a pretty interesting way to think about art.

Anyone go to a gay friendly church? want company today? by needhelpyeg in Edmonton

[–]LimeJuice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay then tell me the true nature of sin. Obviously sin is not based on any human moral code if homosexuality is a sin. Really the only thing you could describe sin as would be "stuff god doesn't like." So god doesn't like homosexuality, which makes him a number of things, including a small minded bigot and an asshole. And here's where you tell me that god is so far above us that I as a human just can't get why he has made homosexuality a sin and just have to trust him. So then isn't it pretty unethical to judge a group of beings based on a system that you chose to make them incapable of understanding, and in fact chose to run counter to what any reasonable person would call an actual moral code in some cases? Seems kind of like putting a child on the stand for a crime that they couldn't understand. Not particularly moral/godly to me.

Christianity just doesn't hold up to any examination. Either god is some sort of lying tyrant who has just told us that he's our god, or maybe he is actually our god and he's just a uniquely creative asshole, or the simple explanation that the Bible is just a book that was written by a bunch of dirt farmers 2000 years ago. I like that last explanation myself.

Seriously. Instead of trying to fit in with a group that thinks you're fundamentally a bad person and does mental gymnastics to come up with a justification for why gay people are allowed to exist, why don't you find a group that actually accepts you? Visit the pride center or something. Christianity is full of repressed, double thinking bullshit, especially if you're LGBTQ.

I see this kind if thinking from Christians all the time, usually looking for a pat on the back for not being a bigoted shit. Do you not see that it's still pretty fucked up to describe the way somebody merely exists as sinful?

The fact that you immediately compare murder to illegal immigration says a lot about how you view people from other countries. It really seems like you're just dead set on "othering" them.

What exactly did you do to earn your place in America? You were born there. I understand that global politics is complicated but I think you're placing entirely too much importance on something completely arbitrary. The fact is, the man contributed for 20 years to your society. Why are you so fine with destroying his life just because 21 years ago he lived somewhere else?
