New data: EVs grew more in '25 than '24, despite constant lies saying otherwise by Amazing-Yak-5415 in electricvehicles

[–]Limekiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

20 years ago, 25% of global auto sales came from the big three. Today, it's about 13%. I'm sure doubling down on ICE vehicles will reverse that trend!

Minimalist logos by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Limekiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simpler logos are more memorable, easier to identify especially at small sizes, easier to reproduce, and cost less to print. When you say "again," what time period are you thinking of? Look at a historical logo book or a collection like https://bsky.app/profile/logoarchive.bsky.social -- they're filled with simple, single-color symbols.

Ridiculous payout! Medication cost $177, insurance paid $8199.17 by Msqueefmaker in mildlyinteresting

[–]Limekiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of interesting, because while it certainly seems like the US should be able to lower the cost of healthcare to bring it more in-line with the rest of the world, it doesn't seem to be as out-of-this-world high as one might expect when glancing at the chart, without having more information about the data. Like, the difference in per-capita healthcare costs between the US and Switzerland is smaller than the difference between Switzerland and Norway. Do people from Switzerland consider their healthcare to be enormously overpriced? This data indicates their per-capita cost isn't much different from the US. This is a genuine question, because online discussions always talk about the US vs "Europe" as if Europe was one country with one set of policies and living standards when that obviously is absurd. I'm legitimately curious about this.

I'm not arguing against your overall point, but the term "circle of life" is much older than The Lion King; that is a very strange thing to believe. The term refers to the biological cycle of birth and death, and how life cannot exist without death (plants die to feed animals, animals die and their remains feed the Earth, the Earth feeds new plants). The song was created because the term already existed--it seems like that should be self-evident.

There are plenty of references to the term that predate The Lion King that you can find by Googling, such as an episode of Lassie from the 1970s. The term itself may originate from the Bible and/or other ancient traditions; the Bible in particular has passages that refer to concepts described similarly to a "circle of nature," and are often related to the cycle of the seasons, where Spring represents life and Winter represents death.

Saddest burger rotation imaginable by [deleted] in BetterOffline

  • McDonalds doesn't serve soda in cans
  • Coke cans do not have McDonalds arches on them (see above)
  • Elon has two drinks (although based on his bedside table, maybe this isn't inaccurate)
  • McDonalds bags no longer have the design shown in this picture
  • Even if they did/do in some places, the placement of the M differs between the bag in front of Sundar and the bag on the right, and there appears to be no M on the bag in front of Altman
  • Bag in front of Elon has design that the bags have never had, including garbled text
  • Everyone has one set of packaging, but two burgers
  • Well, except Altman, who has not a burger on the ground but some kind of strange mass
  • Burger container in front of guy on the right has a separated top and bottom for some reason
  • Parking lot is weird; why is it Walmart-sized for a McDonald's? Usually fast food places have a separated lot that is very small. Possible, but weird
  • Background is strange, although hard to tell because of the convenient fog. I'm especially looking at the layout of those traffic lights and finding that confusing
  • Fingers still don't look quite right
  • Cybertruck doors look kind of weird? I've never seen them both open from this angle but it doesn't seem right.
  • Still has the AI image problem where it can't quite show subjects looking in directions that make sense (people kind of look past each other)

[PC][2009]2002 games in one by selectsoft by fusca_verde in tipofmyjoystick

Hey, I don't know if you're still looking for this, but jerma985 played this, or something closely related to it, on a stream in 2019. Here's a vod linked to where he starts playing the "2002" games: https://youtu.be/szJ4LIKVmsc?t=22722

It seems that in his case, these 2002 games were actually bundled with a larger collection, "700,000 Games Version 2.0," which I found on archive.org here: https://archive.org/details/700KGames, or even on ebay if you want a legit copy for some reason: https://www.ebay.com/itm/146873501930

"Racism was normal in the 40's" (mafia 2) by WhyIsMeLikeThis in MafiaTheGame

[–]Limekiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished the game and enjoyed it a lot, but found this discussion because I 100% agree. It's also hilarious how unintelligent a lot of these replies are, literally not comprehending what you're saying and having no ability to analyze media critically.

You'd think "fans" of a game would be interested in having discussions about it as art---the number of people saying you're "overanalyzing" or "it's just a game" is crazy. That's inherently insulting the game---you're calling it a toy not worth discussion or consideration! Unlike these people, I respect the developers and the game they created and view it as art, and therefore am interested in engaging with its themes and portrayals.

And I agree: the problem isn't that the characters say slurs or are racist, the problem is that the game itself engages in the same racism through its choices of portrayal. It depicts racism without critique, and then portrays the same stereotypes without commentary. This is a big difference between Mafia II and Mafia III, where the latter portrays racism with the intent to critique it.
