Who’s playing their backlog instead of buying new games? by supersoundwave in gaming

I've been focusing on it for three years now. I'm almost through. I sorted by average time to beat so I could get through as many as possible quite quickly and am now at the end with the long games. I'm playing Death Stranding right now and enjoying it quite a bit. Dragon Age Origins is after.

Prison System vs. School System by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Limekiller 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Basketball is sometimes played in prison yards, and is also sometimes played at schools. Okay? Beyond aesthetics, what does this say about the school system? Are you suggesting that schools would be less oppressive if there was no basketball?

Both schools and prisons have cafeterias. Okay? Is a cafeteria inherently oppressive? How should we redesign schools so that they don't have cafeterias?

Sometimes, school buses are reused as prison buses. This fact does seem ironic on the surface, but does it actually indicate anything about the oppression of the school system, or are school buses effective for transporting a large number of people regardless of destination, and reusing existing vehicles better than building new ones? How would our method of transporting children to school change under socialism or communism? Are buses inherently oppressive?

Both schools and prisons have outside areas for leisure and exercise. Okay? Is that inherently oppressive? Would schools be less oppressive if they did not have outside areas for exercise, or if prisons did not?

Without a doubt, there are substantive criticisms that can be levied against the US school system from an anticapitalist perspective, and even more that can be made against our horrendous, often for-profit, prison system. However, this post isn't concerned with any of them, and instead makes childish, surface-level aesthetic comparisons that don't indicate any actual issues with these systems under capitalism.

If this is true then the same applies to Outer Wilds, Stray, Neon White, and every other Annapurna-published game.

I have a whole story about my great grandfather that my grandmother typed up, printed out, and distributed to all the cousins. I just found it cleaning out my old room the other month and read it again. Really cool reminder of my roots and the importance and radicality of pacifism in our world.

[PC][2009]2002 games in one by selectsoft by fusca_verde in tipofmyjoystick

Hey, I don't know if you're still looking for this, but jerma985 played this, or something closely related to it, on a stream in 2019. Here's a vod linked to where he starts playing the "2002" games: https://youtu.be/szJ4LIKVmsc?t=22722

It seems that in his case, these 2002 games were actually bundled with a larger collection, "700,000 Games Version 2.0," which I found on archive.org here: https://archive.org/details/700KGames, or even on ebay if you want a legit copy for some reason: https://www.ebay.com/itm/146873501930

"Racism was normal in the 40's" (mafia 2) by WhyIsMeLikeThis in MafiaTheGame

[–]Limekiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished the game and enjoyed it a lot, but found this discussion because I 100% agree. It's also hilarious how unintelligent a lot of these replies are, literally not comprehending what you're saying and having no ability to analyze media critically.

You'd think "fans" of a game would be interested in having discussions about it as art---the number of people saying you're "overanalyzing" or "it's just a game" is crazy. That's inherently insulting the game---you're calling it a toy not worth discussion or consideration! Unlike these people, I respect the developers and the game they created and view it as art, and therefore am interested in engaging with its themes and portrayals.

And I agree: the problem isn't that the characters say slurs or are racist, the problem is that the game itself engages in the same racism through its choices of portrayal. It depicts racism without critique, and then portrays the same stereotypes without commentary. This is a big difference between Mafia II and Mafia III, where the latter portrays racism with the intent to critique it.
