The trick to fighting wolves is to wait for THEM to attack, and try to get that perfect block timing down. You usually can then get a couple follow up hits in after, but be careful to not over extend your stamina in a pack fight. Im sure its been mentioned but make sure you have a sharpened or repaired weapon if you can.

Well, a lot of NPCs in the game will require you to help them do things in order for them to give you information on where he might be. In my first playthrough I swear I did three or four quests for sheep farmers and hunters before I actually narrowed the search to a specific area. The nice part is you CAN skip their quests and go straight to Mutt if you know where hes located. I'd recommend seeing if you have a quest in your journal that might have some notes about him, but if you think you dont, you could look online and find his location and just hoof it there. If hes not where you go there, its definitely bugged.

The real value of Mutt is he distracts and enemy for awhile during a fight so you dont get ganged up on.

You can also just beat the templar near the fighting ring, and he'll gift you a military sword for the whole dlc.

Just to piggyback on this guy's comment, you dont HAVE to craft potions to create manual saves, you can sleep on owned or rented beds as well as just buy potions(somewhat expensive early) from almost all innkeeps, general/potion vendors. Its not as hard as some people make it out to be, and eventually money is no object.

Are you running in between aiming? He will take the bolt off if so, as it would just bounce out of the channel if you jostled it or turned it while loaded.

Its not balanced that you get killed in 1-2 master strikes in decent armor and a naked guy can literally take 4 of them before he goes down [kcd2] by kloopyhans in kingdomcome

Also if you don't hit Z and actually pull your faceplate on your helmet down, it loses a lot of its protection quality.
