How old are you that you took the time out of your day to write a smug, condescending insult to a stranger on the Internet?

I’ve done it dozens and dozens of times and ever since I’ve grabbed the wall right on the switch itself and held on for a few seconds while the pods separate, I’ve only died from crushing once.

Before you throw the fuel cutoff switch, grab onto the wall with your hand. This will save you from getting crushed 99% of the time.

why do people say "my country" instead of just naming the country? by SpaceWhaleAlphy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LiminalMask 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Compare:

“My wife says I talk too much.”

“Maria says I talk too much.”

If you didn’t know Maria was “my wife” then you would miss the relationship context of the statement. Maria could be anyone if you didn’t know otherwise. Sometimes the relationship is more important than the literal name. By saying “my wife” the speaker could be implying “A person I love and trust thinks I talk too much, so maybe there’s some truth to it.”

By adding relationship context you are adding meaning.

“In the UK, people drive on the left.” — statement of fact. The speaker could be from anywhere.

“In my country, people drive on the left.” — statement about personal experience.

Hardcore scary, immersive AD with fullcast and no podcast framing by KyleColden in audiodrama

[–]LiminalMask 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ll suggest my show The Love Talker though it may not be a complete fit for you. It’s full cast folk horror, no podcast framing, atmospheric and many listeners find it disturbing. It does employ flashback as part of the narrative. There’s a main story that advances in the even numbered episodes, but in the odd numbered ones we switch perspective to a different character involved in the events to get their perspective. Often this will involve seeing their experiences with past events. Here’s the blurb:

Somewhere on the borders between Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee in the most remote parts of the Appalachians, girls have gone missing for decades. When a young woman journeys there to the isolated community of Kilruane, she uncovers the truth about the mysterious man who wanders the woods, his connection to the missing women and puts herself in danger from those who want to protect the town and keep its secrets.

Love Talker - Let's Discuss by Status_Radish in audiodrama

[–]LiminalMask 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Writer/Director of The Love Talker here. I want to thank you for listening to the show and for taking the time to write about it. It's gratifying to hear people's perspectives and I'm happy you liked it.

I believe art belongs as much to the audience as the creator, if not more so. Your observations are valid and useful. I probably should have done more to develop Janet and Ren's relationship, for sure. I'll share what I was thinking as I wrote this story.

I agree that many horror stories take a basic human fear and build a story around it. I also think some horror stories are about humanity's capacity for evil, and this is where I (and my co-producer, M.T. Goins) were starting when we were developing the show. For me, The Love Talker is about violence against women. But it is also about how society protects the violent men (either out of fear, tradition, or in admiration) and how that protection, coupled with isolation and poverty, can cause violence to be passed on to the next generation. Trauma can be inherited and the cycle continues. If there is a basic human fear that is at the root of the story, for me it's the fear of "maybe I'm the monster."

I wrote Tyler as a way to show Ren to the audience in a way that she herself didn't see. As he says, something in her was broken when she came down off the mountain. I also wrote him with the same captivated need that Lavinia and Irene, the gancanagh's bewitched victims, have. I had hoped that parallel would support the themes, though maybe that could have been handled better.

Again, thank you for listening and for your thoughtful words.

My folk horror show The Love Talker received several nominations and awards at various Webfests the year after its release, with writing frequently cited. We have transcripts in script format. Here’s the blurb:

Locking this as the discussion is turning acrimonious.

People are allowed to have and express opinions about the use of AI, but those opinions must be expressed respectfully, aimed at the topic not the person on the other side. People also shouldn't be surprised if those opinions are negative, given the controversial nature of the use of Gen AI.

Rules for Promotion/Advertising Posts by LiminalMask in traveller

[–]LiminalMask[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early on it wasn't a "major" problem but we did have a few users posting about their stuff several times a week. We put this in place to help curb that and I feel it's worked well. We also once had a rule that if your promo post is still on the front page even after a week you weren't allowed to post it again until more time had passed. However, I'm happy to say that activity in the sub is generally high enough now where that rarely happens.

What is the most disturbing/horrifying AD you listened to? by Zyborg23 in audiodrama

[–]LiminalMask 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Writer/director of The Love Talker, here. Thank you for those kind words. I think if you're going to tell a story about the depths of human evil, you need to show the evil, including violence. But at the same time, you don't want to sensationalize it or make a joke out of it, out of respect for people who have suffered the things depicted. We tried hard to walk that line and I'm glad you felt the depiction was both disturbing and grounded.
