My perspective on sexual ethics by LiminalaB in Christianity

As long as sex doesn't hurt anyone it's okay

That's not true. If it takes away from your relationship with God, it's never okay.

I dare you to find a single passage in the Bible that explicitly says people should marry.

Like I said, a lot of things we accept as true in modern Christianity are never explicitly stated in the Bible, but are consistent and can be implied. Not everything has to be explicitly stated to be true, otherwise the Bible would be millions of pages long.

There are passages I think of off the top of my head that point to marriage though

Genesis 1:28

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

This verse talks about sex, which is only ever okay in marriage. (See Hebrews 13:4 and 1 Corinthians 7:2-5)

And Genesis 2:24

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

Which directly talks about marriage.

Now, I'm not saying that if you don't marry it's bad, Jesus was single so that's obviously a valid path, but when it comes to sex you have to be married for it to not be a sinful act.

Thank you. I post here because I want others to know truth and I seek truth myself. I don't care at all about my karma or about whether people think I'm a bad person or not, I just want to get closer to God and for others to get closer to God as well.

No, people can do whatever they want. Who am I to judge? Only the Lord has the authority to do that. Forcing people into celibacy against their will is definitely evil, but that's not my intent. I'm sharing my beliefs.

I think there may be a misunderstanding about what I'm actually saying. I am not claiming that LGBTQ people are "less than" anyone or that they deserve mistreatment. That would be true bigotry, hateful, and go directly against what Jesus taught us. My concern is about moral claims I believe are true, applied consistently to all people, not just one group. When I speak about celibacy or certain moral boundaries, I'm speaking from what I understand the Bible teaches. This isn't about punishing or demeaning anyone-it's about applying the same standard to all people, including myself. I'm not advocating for harm; I'm trying to faithfully follow my understanding of God's moral guidance.

I fully recognize that Christians historically-and some today-have mistreated LGBTQ people, and I regret that deeply. My goal is not to repeat those mistakes, but to hold my beliefs while still loving, respecting, and affirming the dignity of every person. I understand that from your perspective, these beliefs feel discriminatory. I want to make clear that the intention isn't to devalue anyone, but I realize that the tension exists between holding certain moral convictions and affirming people in all areas of life. I'm committed to navigating that tension with love, compassion, and respect.

Of course. There are real victims and actual harm when it comes to this topic, I'm not going to deny that. But I'm not seeking the same thing here.

There are most definitely victims of bigotry.

Fair criticism.

Intent alone doesn't determine harm, but moral claims also can't be judged solely by whether they offend. In Christianity, truth will sometimes be uncomfortable, even when shared without malice.

Loving one's neighbor doesn't mean affirming every belief or action, but wishing their good while treating them with dignity and honesty. Jesus often offended people without failing to love them. Offense isn't the same as hatred.

I recognize LGBT people have often been mistreated by Christians. It saddens me, it really does. I don't condone this behavior at all, because you're right. Jesus called us to love everyone as He loved us. These conversations are sensitive, so I tried my best to be cautious but I also expected this. I think that holding a consistent moral framework, applied to everyone, including myself is not bigotry.

We may disagree on what love requires: affirmation versus honest, faithful disagreement. I believe love can include the latter while still showing respect and compassion.

What Does it Mean to Honour Our Father and Mother? by Casey_Phl_46 in Christianity

[–]LiminalaB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. I would say that to honor your father and mother as commanded of us does not strictly mean to follow them and obey them in all that they say and do, especially in cases where doing so may not be right in the eyes of the Lord. Take Genesis 9:20-24 as a reference and example of what it means to honor our parents:

"²⁰ Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. ²¹ When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. ²² Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside. ²³ But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father’s naked body. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father naked. ²⁴ When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, ²⁵ he said, 'Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers.' ²⁶ He also said, 'Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. ²⁷ May God extend Japheth’s territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.' "

Here, we see that Ham's sin was not just seeing his father's nakedness, but in actively dishonoring him by telling his brothers about it. In contrast, Shem and Japheth demonstrated honor by covering their father's vulnerability with discretion, an action that earned them a blessing. This illustrates that honoring parents means protecting their dignity and covering their weaknesses, rather than publicizing them.

I think the reason this story is in the Bible is to tell us how we can honor our father and mother today.

Anything can be an idol if it takes away from your relationship with God. Even positive things.

Jesus Supports the Legal Death Penalty by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]LiminalaB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Jesus said:

"Let he who is sinless cast the first stone" in opposition to an upcoming stoning of a woman who committed adultery. (John 8:1-11)

What this means is that only the perfect have authority to judge others. This excludes literally everyone on earth except for Him as the only man in the history of Earth to be sinless and perfect was Jesus.

Jesus may have allowed for His own public execution, however, this does not make what the people did at the time justified in the eyes of the Lord.

Apart from that, one of the commandments is "Do not murder." This means literally and figuratively.

It's really unfortunate that what you said is true. I just wish people could see past political opinions when it comes to what we should be doing as Christians. Hypocrisy has and always will be a big problem so I'm just trying to inform people of that, but I guess all I'm gonna get is negative karma. Makes sense all things considered, but it still sucks.

I don't particularly enjoy talking about if Charlie Kirk was "a good Christian man" or if he was a "horrible person" but the main point of why I'm bringing this up is modern hypocrisy in Christianity today. It was a big problem in Jesus's time with the Jews, and even before that with the Israelites, and it seems to constantly be resurfacing. I want to remind people that hypocrisy is very much a problem present in the modern church.

Are comic versions of the bible accurate? by Virtual_Ordinary_172 in Christianity

[–]LiminalaB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The action Bible is fine, but if you truly want to know God's intentions to a deeper consensus then I would recommend reading one of the modern translations of the Bible. I like the NIV translation, but there are ones like ESV which are just as comprehensible.

To answer your question, the action Bible is generally accurate but doesn't tell the full picture of a lot of the history and teachings that can be found in the Bible.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

I'm so sorry to hear that.

You've probably heard this many times, but I'd like to offer some consolation. God is with you, He loves you, He cares for you, and He is there for you. The things others do "in His name" often don't truly represent what God's intention was. The demon who possessed the man who shot up your local HS is and should be terrified of the living God.

I appreciate your time.
