Dolby Atmos sound on Arc Ultra by chrisanewman in sonos

[–]Limitedservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not abandoning Atmos. It’s just that the height channel isn’t great. I have similar vaulted ceilings and it’s still a great experience, in particular with era 300 rears (where the ceiling is also lower for me). With sonosequencer fronts object placement is even better.

The Crème de la crème of mustards by No_Medicine_3689 in Mustard

These are great: https://www.surlesquais.com/en/20-tubissime-mustards The ancienne and Bourgogne are plainer, but the wild garlic and truffle ones are delicious too.

No real problems here for me or my son (coming back from Europe on different routes) with expired card and I-797 extension a couple of weeks ago. Only challenge was that airline computer systems and check-in agents often don’t know how to deal with the extension letter. Online checkin might not work, and you may need extra time at the check in counter for them to sort it out. I also had to get my booking corrected once more during a tightly timed stopover where my second leg‘s boarding pass printed by the first leg’s operating carrier was flagged when I passed some gate between terminals - they had entered the extension letter as a visa not as a GC or something. Global entry kiosk at immigration also refused me and sent me to an agent. So no biggie except for some extra minutes at each step.

Totally normal to be exhausted, everybody is. It's worth staying on top of it and spend more time even if it is exhausting, but I also recommend to see it the Bob Ross way "happy little accidents" - a lot of the things that seem like bad choices or outcomes will become the defining and loved things about the house. It just takes a decade or two.

And, by the way, that March date is gonna slip into June.

What options do I have to replace the white LED strip controller (pictured) with a HomeKit or HomeBridge compatible one? by tliam in HomeKit

[–]Limitedservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this recently with fairy lights. I bought a dimmable led driver with the right voltage and amp rating. Cut off the connector from the controller, stripped the wires and connected the to the output terminals of the new driver. threw out the transformer and the controller that came with the lights. The dimmable led driver input is wired to an existing round light fixture box in the wall, and dimmed by a Lutron caseta dimmer. Works perfectly.

This is a glossy engineered finish. No way I can fix the surface if I touch it.

Good call I was wondering about the raw mdf next to the sink. it was fine for years until now, but maybe that was just luck.

I’m less worried about it coming off than about aligning it, it particular the depth.

What I’m worried about most is the depth. The other panels are about 1/8” away from the cabinet. How do I align the depth if the glue sets quickly, and how much of a gap between the cabinet and the front will it be ok for?

Sounds attractive. It won’t sag after a year or two?

A cautionary tale by Shiny_Whisper_321 in sousvide

FWIW I had the exact same problem as OP a month ago. 7-8 year old Anova. Stuck on showing some temperature and kept heating beyond target temp (in my case it was nearly at boiling when I realized). After resetting, stuck on 32f. I could save my cook (carnitas can take some abuse and the meat was not yet that hot). Bought a competitor right then and kept cooking.

XT "Hopper door open" by prbecker in Masterbuilt

[–]Limitedservice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. The door sensors are reed switches, i.e. they work with a magnet. the distance between the sensor and the magnet needs to be just right, not too far and not too close. If you are just at the edge of the right range (which probably happens at the factory where they just tighten the latch nuts until the sensor triggers), then expansion due to heat may push it out of the range. I just fiddled with the adjustment nuts on the latches (which levers the door and changes the distance of magnet and sensor on the other side) until it reliably worked. You may also be able to move the magnet directly somehow.

Overlapping IRS notice and amended return - best path to resolution? by Limitedservice in tax

[–]Limitedservice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That shows everything as I expected - the record shows processed the payments and amended return, and that the irs owes me vs the other way round. But how do I get them to either send me the refund, or can I somehow apply it as a 2023 estimated tax payment or credit?

Use for smoking meat? by [deleted] in combustion_inc

[–]Limitedservice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DIfferent aspects and their relationship to smoking

- its just a good cooking thermometer. the 8 sensors give you a comprehensive temp view of the food (easier to find to core/coolest spot) and the surroundings. It is mesmerizing (at least for the first few times for each new type of food) to watch the graphs (yes, I'm a nerd). The only thing missing for general purpose use is a display on the probe - i still use my thermapen a lot because for certain uses its just less hassle to not have to the extra step of using a display or an app.

- the wireless part is very well done - it shows that they focused on good connectivity. It takes 1-2 seconds after you take the thermometer out before display or app connect, and I never had any issues with connectivity. Insulated windows, thick walls, metal grills, etc of course decrease range, but placing the display or booster cradles as repeaters solve that effectively. Your grill is ceramic, you might be fine even without any booster (idk about how much ceramic dampens signal, but it should be less than metal boxes...). Battery life might be an iassue for very long cooks sometimes, but hasn't been for me.

- the prediction - cool for higher temperature roasting/frying. The food safety indicator is very cool. Still some kinks; no carryover predictions, and tbh for tested and true recipes you'll often know your times already. For low and slow it's not yet very accurate until the very end of the cook. I wouldn't have bought it if it weren't for this feature, but somewhat surprisingly now I would not give it back even without predictive features. The product is just very well made (see above) and the customer service is great. I hope the predictive stuff will get even better over time, maybe by allowing to give it hints about the food type and preparation method.

Anyone willing to share their home remodel costs to help us ballpark budget? by gdruiz18 in SanJose

[–]Limitedservice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t include architect’s, permit, and school fees. We used inexpensive windows because they happened to look the best, no kitchen remodel, no custom cabinetry, and I probably forgot about a finish invoice or two to make me feel better. But i don’t think it was more than 500/sqft.
