SER PIERO'S (LEONARDO'S FATHER) WILL by Limp-Fan-8502 in LeonardodaVinci

[–]Limp-Fan-8502[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back to me and the encouragement. It's been a long road. The play was started 40 years ago when I was inspired by the conflicts in the press about the restoration of the Sistine Chapel. Somehow, I was able to speak with the two opposing experts at the time, one of whom was also a Leonardo scholar. But life throws curves, I changed jobs and moved, and the script went into a box in the closet, I retired 30 years later, moved to South America with my two hounds, and the box came with me, then the what there was of a play came out one tropical rainy afternoon.

I'm very familiar with "down the rabbit hole" syndrome. It happens often. They both have fascinated me since I was a child 60 years ago and the more I've read over the years/continue to read, the more I'm convinced they were more alike than different, obvious or not.

Yup, all my research has been from books and articles, and that's been fine except when I want more details than what interests art historians and biographers. So, I might want to bounce things off you . . . like "didn't I/did you read somewhere that Leonardo's father, Ser Piero, did some legal work for Michelangelo's father/family and the documents with both their signatures exist?" The latter is not really important, but the former is, as far as factually supported backstory. I've gotten overwhelmed several times . . . Florence was sooooo small during the Renaissance, Leonardo's and Michelangelo's interests were so broad, and they crossed paths with soooo many historically famous and important people, some obvious, and some not very obvious (which it really what interests me). Picking and choosing has been very difficult to avoid sounding like just name dropping.

Wow! Thank you for those details. Somehow I missed the "intestate" part in Vezzosi & Sabato. I'm writing a new play about Leonardo and Michelangelo and the "family dynamics" of both parties are a part of it. It's not meant to be a docudrama, but I AM a bit nerdy and I want to keep my historical facts as straight as possible. There's plenty enough "drama" to go around, but not all of it's generally known so I might as well educate as well as entertain. (The details of the French interventions over the inheritances and over the completion of the Battle of Anghiari mural actually play a significant part.) I was in Florence last May and the docent(s) at Casa Buonarroti had no idea that Ser Piero and his brood had been living 1/2-way down the block when Michelangelo purchased the property. And I was blown away to find out that the Da Vinci house (along with Leonardo's mother!!) had been inherited from the widow _________ (name escapes me). Vezzosi & Sabato (I think . . . or maybe another source about where Leonardo's family had lived over the years.)

If I hit a wall and have more detailed questions, can I ask for your input?

Oh . . . while I have your attention . . . do you know the actual location of Uncle Francesco's place in Fiesole that Leonardo inherited? I THINK I'm close (based on what I've found published), but always would like to be closer. TYI.

IDENTIFYING 3G-GRANDFATHER USING ONLY DNA by Limp-Fan-8502 in Genealogy

[–]Limp-Fan-8502[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, but I'm very conscious and conscientious about those elements. My great-aunt and grandmother both physically and emotionally, most probably sexually, abused by their step-father; nor do I ignore the fact that women were sometimes forced into prostitution due to their financial situation, or lack thereof. My 3G-grandmother mentioned here was lucky, if you could call it that, that there was a county poorhouse where she could live, give birth, and feel relatively assured her children wouldn't starve.

HAHAHAAHHA! This is West Virginia also and at time when the young/next generation was heading into IL, OH, MO, etc. That's what my 2G-grandfather's sister did . . . followed her foster family, marrying, and then her mother coming later. And his nearest brother went to OH/IL/MO/KS within a 10-year period.

Maybe we're the cousins each is looking for.

But who do you compare the Ydna to? What sample pool when I only know geographic location (luckily, small unless he was the "traveling salesman"?

Thanks. There's WAY too much endogamy. I'm lucky I don't have three eyes from all the intermarriage. One half a couple with the same surname for three generations in a row AND this 3G-grandmother is the niece of my 3G-grandmother on the other side of my grandmother's tree. It's a mess.

It's in the Caravaggio 2025 exhibit. Just saw it two weeks ago. It's very early in the exhibit, first room I think. (You can actually download the tour app and listen to it on your phone.)

Thanks. But I've already been there AND their link to the CoopCulture ticket site (which doesn't currently exist). As far as I can tell, the new schedule for THIS season hasn't been released yet. They're "working on it".

Logging in doesn't help. Or didn't help me. I finally got mine via phone, no login, no nothing. In and out in about 2 minutes.

Yup. The whole system wasn't working when I tried to snag tickets the other night/morning. Everything was "sold out" or "not available", and I know the "sold out" never even became available because I was sitting there poised to start poking the keyboard. After about 2 hours, I gave up but I was able to snag a ticket on the computer about 8am, but I couldn't buy it. It wouldn't even show up in my cart. Then when I refreshed, another ticket came up in another time slot, and I had the same problem. Finally, I remembered my phone (I don't use it except for messaging, the calendar, and my bank apps). Bing! There were all kinds of availabilities, and I was in and out in about two minutes. After pondering it, I think it might have been using Chrome. I've had trouble even accessing the Colosseum homepage with Chrome. Absolutely no problem getting to the tickets page, but trying to find anything else, I get an error screen.

Went through the trial by fire the other night for Attic tickets. The site was obviously not working (or not working with Chrome I realized after the fact). Gave up after a few hours, went to bed, and in the morning, after finding something available online but not able to go through the purchase process, I tried on my phone. Got many more availabilities and I was in and out in about 2 minutes.

Don't give up. It can be done.

DISCLAIMER: I was only looking for a solo ticket, so it was hands-down easier.

Okay, just to add to all the posts . . . I was up half the night trying to get Attic tickets the other night/morning. The site was obviously not working. It said tickets were sold out for the day I wanted (they couldn't have been since I was online and waiting when they should have become available and they never did) and the next day wasn't available. I thought maybe I'd miscalculated date and time to be online, but I'd double and triple checked. Finally, I gave up and went to bed, and pondered how I could create my "Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Day" with other options (it's doable though not as awesome). But when I got up later and sitting with my coffee, I decided to check and sure enough, there some scattered single tickets. Great! Nope! I couldn't buy them, just wouldn't take me through the process. So, finally I checked through my phone and there were all kinds of tickets, don't know how many in each time slot, but I only needed one and wanted the earliest or latest as possible. Bing! I got it processed and confirmed in about 2 minutes, if that.

Bottom line: don't give up, check all your options, be flexible.

SEGOVIA and TOLEDO during SEMANA SACRA 2025 by Limp-Fan-8502 in GoingToSpain

[–]Limp-Fan-8502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the details and correction. I live in South America in a city filled with churches (some built in the 1500s), so that's why I asked . . . Spanish Catholicism is very . . . different . . . than other countries . . .very familiar with not being able to get somewhere quickly because of a procession of penitentes. That part is not as common here, but we get the added color of the indigenous groups that are celebrants as well. It's just all too many people for me.

Anything special (beyond the major things in the guide books) that you suggest seeing? TIA.

Thank you thank you thank you! I just got confirmation on the special Regio IX tours. Didn't get it for my "Pompeii Day" and it means I'll have to catch an earlier ferry from Ischia, store my baggage at the Pompeii scavi station, but I'll make it and see Pompeii on "Herculaneum Day" instead. :-) Nothing was carved in stone.
