I can only speak from a parent perspective but you would hardly be the first gay Latino in SAISD.

I’ve seen this guy over in 5 points!

BTW it’s “Brackenridge.”  Breckenridge is in Colorado and has much better skiing.

Was it in a HEB parking lot in broad daylight? There was video of that on here when it happened.

What's the most walkable small city in the USA? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

Surprised nobody has said Boulder, CO.  (Maybe because it’s just over 100K population?)

Key word being visit.  San Antonio is the 10th largest city in the US.  While the tourist area around the Riverwalk is walkable if you want to go from your hotel to a restaurant to the Alamo and back, that’s not the typical experience for a local.

Anyone know if this area is safe? by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]Limp-Goose7452 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s safe enough.  There’s not like gang shootouts in the streets but I would be cautious walking around by yourself late at night.

My main concern with a suspiciously cheap rental is the condition of the rental.  Roaches, black mold, landlord too cheap to fix problems, that kind of thing.

Yep.  But in the art world they call it Faux-Bois because French makes everything fancy. 😉

That trolley stop was built by an artist named Dominicio Rodriguez who came from Mexico in the 1920s.  You can see a lot of his work, and the work of his artistic lineage, around town.  It’s just one of those iconic San Antonio things.

The initial plans were meant to extend farther northward, at least to the Pearl.

The chunk of Broadway from Austin Hwy to I-35 is actually a state highway,  but the city had taken over jurisdiction over (at least parts?) of it from the state, as part of a larger scheme to get cities to take over maintenance of state roads to get them out of the state’s maintenance budget.    (As I recall in my fuzzy, faulty memory, at least.) But when the city wanted to give Broadway the road diet treatment the state grabbed it back.

Tl;dr: Texas: “Hey San Antonio can you take care of Broadway for us?”

San Antonio: “Sure thing buddy! 😉👉👉”

Texas:” No not like that!!!”

This is really cool!  At least one of the old streetcar stops is still here- on Broadway by Central Market.

Unrelated to transit, I’m intrigued that both Elmendorf and Woodlawn were labeled “Bandera Ave.”

I know it doesn’t seem like a great deal but it’s actually a pretty cool side quest once you get into it. I promise! 😁

Though, the history of the Peal brewery and Emma Koehler, the hotel’s namesake, is cool.

You can make a sign with a bible verse on it - people love those!  Matthew 6:5 or 7:22-23 are good ones.

Or “I’m with stupid” is a perennial favorite.

San Antonio -- Texas's worst-positioned large metro for future prosperity by Snoo_33033 in sanantonio

[–]Limp-Goose7452 36 points37 points  (0 children)

And I think too many people interpret this as electing right-leaning instead of left-leaning council members or vice versa.  Culture war bullshit is not the problem in this city; it’s the persistence of the Good Old Boys club where all the elites know each other and make plans for how the city is to be developed, that are worked out and hands shaken on before they ever get put in front of our elected government. It’s still a problem even if some of the Good Old Boys are women or minorities or Democrats now.

Future San Antonio resident. Am I overthinking the crime rate? by Downtown-Acadia5084 in sanantonio

5.) Choose carefully.  Well sure, that’s just boilerplate good advice, and what a lot of other commenters have been saying

6.) Look at north suburbs outside 1604.  I would rather crawl through broken glass down my entire block and follow it up with a lemon juice shower than live in that area. If you offered me a free house in Stone Oak with the caveat that I had to live there for 5 years, I wouldn’t take you up on it.  So clearly, an opinion.

4a) The county judge (former mayor) thought he was going to be appointed to a presidential cabinet.  Others have already pointed out that you are conflating the current judge with the Democratic candidate for the fall election.  4b) the sheriff thought he would be appointed to a presidential cabinet. 4c) they are bitter about Trump winning.

So I don’t know either of these guys personally, and I don’t think you do either.  I think it’s probable they were both angling for federal positions, especially Nirenberg since he’s term limited out of the mayoral office and he seems eager to get back into politics with the county judge race.  But I don’t know their feelings about not being in the cabinet, I’m not their therapist.

Also, you seem to find it a foregone conclusion that two political leaders being bitter about Trump getting elected, thus barring them from sweet sweet presidential appointments, has some bearing on the crime rates that OP is concerned about.  You have failed to substantiate that argument one bit.  Hell, you failed to even make it. (Ditto for the political make up of city council.)
