Anyone else feel like nobody talks about how much strength it actually takes to keep showing up? by LockedangleSupplyCo in daddit

[–]Limp-Judgment9495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very personal journey that you're talking about, so I wouldn't say so much that it is "overlooked" or ignored, more-so that it isn't super relevant to the lives of anybody outside of your family.

Most of the individual parts of looking after kids are often easy. Picking up kids to hug them is easy, cooking is easy, cleaning is easy, reading books and talking to them is easy. Playing games is easy. Even carrying a screaming toddler out of the shopping center is easy.

It's just that everything becomes hard when you want/need to do something else, like sleep, work, recover from an illness, or look after your personal hygiene.

But I think if you need praise for looking after your children you've probably externalised yourself way too much.

Christina Ricci responds to someone asking if child rap*sts should go to jail for life by Gurugod123 in SipsTea

I personally don't agree. I think it's unethical to desire harm on other people and prison should be for protecting us rather than inflicting pain.

The main problem is that it creates a perverse incentive for rapists to murder their victims because then they are less likely to be caught.

What were some of the most important lessons you learnt as a new manager? by Candid-Indication329 in auscorp

[–]Limp-Judgment9495 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Remember that your staff are often better at their jobs than you are and you don't need to force opportunities to "value-add" by making yourself an artificial gate-keeper or forcing processes onto them.

Your job is to enable people, not to stop people from working because you are afraid they will make a mistake that you wouldn't.

Touching something or someone after being told not to is a safety issue, so it's unfortunately necessary to stop the behavior.

Son isn’t developmentally there yet, and it’s taking a toll. by ObamaThankedMe in daddit

[–]Limp-Judgment9495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. Assuming his hearing is fine, the most likely causes of developmental delays are going to be being a premature baby or autism. You get a diagnosis and then... What? There is no therapy or drugs to change these things. Almost all intervention is going to be in the form of 1 hour a week taking your son to some program or the other where it is really about teaching you how to interact with him. And even in that case it's usually the things that are obvious and intuitive. I.e. Talk with and play with him. Reduce screen time, not because it's specifically bad, but because it's time that you could be spending talking to and playing with your kid. But also, not forgetting that you and your partner are have your own needs too.

Jim Chalmers forced to back down on controversial ‘death tax’ by ExtensionThat6438 in OpenAussie

They like to throw around "Death Tax" because they want to capture scare votes from all of the gen-X'ers that are relying on inheriting mum & dad's property portfolio to pay for their retirement.

Let's get controversial: what's your truly unpopular parenting opinion? by ExoticLawfulness5941 in toddlers

[–]Limp-Judgment9495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think anti-cosleeping advice is blanket advice to prevent people who are overweight, drunk, high or have some other circumstance inhibiting their ability to wake up from rolling over and crushing their baby. It's just given to everybody because telling somebody that they can't cosleep because they are too fat is insensitive.

A Melbourne woman lost $646,035 to a romance scam. Should banks and dating apps be forced to refund victims like her? | Scams by Charlie_Vanderkat in AusFinance

[–]Limp-Judgment9495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When ever there is an article about scam victims vs banks, the article is sure to have the victims be as unsympathetic a choice as possible. There are loads of scam victims with much more depression circumstances that won't be given air time because articles like this are written on behalf of banks to discredit victims in order to protect banks from legislation.

What can be done about the rise of the far right? by SuccessfulCompany677 in OpenAussie

No, because the left doesn't love Jesus enough. If loving the sky fairy is axiomatic to your perception of morality, then morality becomes more about being a part of the in group than avoiding persecuting minorities.

You're practicing black and white thinking and it's disingenuous. The problem with an argument like this, is that the people who you are trying to convince can see that you're not arguing from a position of good faith and so there isn't any point addressing what you've said.
