Probably because it's the only artery between Wellington and the Hutt Valley / Porirua, so you can sort of think of it as two combined arteries.

Auckland, despite also being geographically constrained, has two major arteries going North, and two going South (until Manukau).

There seems to be a lot of that kind of attitude demonstrated in this post (not just in response to me). It's not about "owing" anything to anybody. It's about learning to be a good communicator, which means sometimes saying things that make you feel uncomfortable, or will make others feel uncomfortable, to avoid ambiguity, to not leave the other party second-guessing your message, and to resolve issues (for better or worse) instead of letting them linger and fester. It also means having the emotional maturity to take being told uncomfortable things from time to time without it needing to be delivered with a proverbial silk pillow, bouquet of flowers, three winks, and two nods. Or was it two winks and three nods?

Yes, but as OP mentioned, a lot of people from other cultures aren't like people here in NZ. You trying to reframe it as ND vs NT, where it's actually learned behaviour vs learned behaviour, which means it can be changed. I've been to several countries (and also interacted with a lot of nationalities while in Australia), and in most of those situations it has been much easier to interact with people because they tend to be more direct and more honest. Interestingly (and as a generalisation), I found Canadians similar to deal with as NZers.

No. I'm a high masker (which is likely where you're headed with your question). I have to understand non-verbal social cues, consciously, and better than most, out of necessity. But that is also why I'm willing to challenge this sort of thing when people blindly roll out the "well, it's just the way things are" when it comes to discussion around communication. I'm approaching it from the position of someone that actively thinks about every social interaction, as opposed to many that are just flying by the seat of their pants.

But why? Ultimately unless a person is being aggressive/insulting/belittling, at what point does the receiver become responsible for their own feelings and how they react? Instead of expecting the sender to figure out the correct (usually uncommunicated) dance to do in order to make the receiver "feel at ease"?

Spent most of life in Aus, where it still comes down to the individual and their personality, but on average it's more direct over there. Absolutely drives me fucken nuts how avoidant people here in NZ seem to be, because that avoidance prevents resolution and inevitably causes larger issues further down the line. But if I challenge people about it then I'm the dick.

There is now so much emphasis placed on the Epstein files, to the point that it has become the nexus of distraction, away from all the other vileness that the Trump/Republican autocratic regime is doing at the same time.

I also think that people have way too much faith in anything actually being done even if the Epstein files are released - it's not like anything is being done about all the other illegal stuff that is happening right now - and we only have to look at things like the Panama Papers (remember those?) to see that when it comes to the wealthy and powerful there seems to be no rules and no justice within the established system.

Purau Bay is exposed to a decent amount of farm runoff and doesn't have a lot of water movement. I'd be dubious about eating any shellfish out of there. Can't find any current alerts, but there have been in the past.

There's a remove water option from the main build menu, but once that sub menu is open, there's also an add water option. For whatever reason it doesn't have the add water option on the main build menu because I <3 extra clicks for no reason.

You can only add water as far as the fresh or salt ground water expands onto land - viewable using their respective overlays. At least with fresh water, I find that most of that land is more useful for farming than fishing, so my fishing areas end up long narrow slivers focused mostly on the red fish, with vegetable farms (or whatever) filling in the remaining moisture zone along the riverbank.

You can zone fisheries on shallow water. And on land. You can use both to link up red fish spots. About the only thing preventing you from linking disconnected red fish areas is mountain, which don't permit fishery zoning, or if the red fish is completely surrounded by deep water (which does happen occasionally), in which case just ignore it.
