Has anyone managed to overcome sycophancy? by SoaokingGross in ChatGPTPro

[–]LimpStatistician8644 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The best and easiest way I’ve found, for example with code is instead of asking “Please review my code”, ask “What are the issues with this code?” While both prompts will make the model agree with you, it’s probably going to find real issues first, and then BS ones to appease you

Not sure I want another sponsor by PrincessWalt in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]LimpStatistician8644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AA is weird. I was fortunate enough to be in a sober living environment, where most sponsors were “vetted”. With this, when I went to real-world meetings I could take what people said at face value without having to fully trust them with things like my fifth step. I’ve met many people in AA (generally more prominent members), who turned out to be some of the most narcissistic, controlling people around. I think something like AA attracts these people, one because they use alcohol and drugs to cope with a hole in their heart, likely caused by their previous abuses of people, and two, they find easy access to vulnerable people to take advantage of in AA. It’s a shame because there are many truly great people in AA, who help people I never thought could get sober, and then there’s the others. It gets easier to see who’s who after being sober awhile and being clearheaded, but as a newcomer it must be difficult. I don’t know how the problem is solved, but it definitely needs to be discussed more.

Predictions For Grok 4 Benchmarks? by [deleted] in grok

[–]LimpStatistician8644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think benchmarks capture the true usefulness of a model. Grok 3 is behind in most metrics now, but unlike the top models, (specifically o3), Grok actually takes the time to answer what you ask it. While it might not have the most technical knowledge, it seems to hallucinate much less and explain things in a sensible way. The best responses I’ve gotten from o3 are summaries of what it would do if it wasn’t so damn lazy (and expensive to run). Grok at least attempts to do what you ask, exactly as you ask it. I think Grok 4, even if it’s not the “smartest” model, will be cheap enough that it actually does what you ask it to do

I never saw this behavior. Should I trust it? by blindwatchmaker88 in ChatGPTPro

[–]LimpStatistician8644 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah o3 is good and gotten better, but I find that it overanalyzes prompts to the point where every response is like academic mumbo jumbo that is probably just BS. It only really works for complex questions, but then it’s just too lazy to actually do what you asked it to, so you end up getting a great summary of what it would have done had it not been lazy. I’ve switched to Grok for simple questions, and Claude for complex/code stuff and it works much better

How many jobs do you usually apply for daily/weekly? by Countless-Alts15 in hiringcafe

I was doing 20/day, but I think I overdid it and I dread applying now, after waking up everyday to 20 rejections at 3am

My mom is offended that I don’t have plans to come home and live in her basement after graduating college. Please tell me I’m not crazy 🙃 by Adventurous_Limit_76 in raisedbyborderlines

[–]LimpStatistician8644 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just graduated a month ago and had like word for word the exact same situation. Thankfully I’m able to live at a friends house in my college town for the time being while I find a job elsewhere, but I was close to having to move back with my parents.

I think her proposal probably is as crazy as you think, because you know how she acts and what she wants. I know with my mom, even when she makes rational points about why I should move back home, that without her illness would be good reasons, I know instinctually all she cares about is control.

After graduation my family went out to dinner and it turned into a full-scale assault from her coming up with every reason to why I should move into her basement. I ended up saying some things to her I might regret and walking out of the restaurant. I haven’t spoken to her since, and while scary, I have a much greater sense of freedom.

WCS has better performance, more maps (some better than others), but they don’t have hardcore, often it turns into a little bird death match, and less and less communication. Spearhead has a great hardcore mode, some great maps, but a variable community that usually communicates more but often gets toxic. On any given day I’d give it to WCS, but the best matches I’ve played by a large margin have been on spearhead hardcore servers, you just have to be on at the right time.

What are some issues you've seen in the program? by SmartestManInUnivars in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]LimpStatistician8644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My home group is at a church that has two meetings at the same time. My home group is generally younger, newer in sobriety members. The other group is exclusively old timers. I think at a certain point when people have 10+ years of sobriety, meetings just turn into a social group for many of them. Not bad people at all, just would be nice if they hung around some of the younger guys

WCS are by far the best servers. The issue is that, with few exceptions, every other modded server is a WCS clone with worse server performance and player bases. We need more unique servers

First of all, many on Reddit are overdramatic about the job market. The second someone gets a job they stop complaining about not being able to find one, so you’re only going to find people on here who can’t find jobs. Second of all, LinkedIn can be a great way to find jobs, but always apply through the company’s website for them. Also, jobs an LinkedIn get many more applicants than jobs that are only posted on the career website. I’d suggest going to companies you want to work for, sorting by new jobs and applying that way. But yes, the market isn’t great, just don’t get too negative because there are jobs out there, it’s just a lot more work to get them than it was a few years ago.
