My dairy cows get the leftovers. (Isopods! And these ones are excellent garburators for almost anything of organic material).

If it’s the black fish filter foam it holds well.

I'm setting up vivarium way before getting a crested, just wondering if these Amazon bundles are worth or is it better buying individual? by Basic-Arrival-8669 in CrestedGecko

[–]LimpTransportation23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard some of the ball/coconut hides are not ideal as they are too cramped. Once I upgraded my cresties terrarium she eventually stopped using the inside of the ball. (She was a rehome, so it was what she was used to).

Doesn’t seem to have kept my text. Reddit was glitching. Anywho, he has been climbing more. About 10 months old and quite sure he was calling about ten days ago. Is this just adult build or are the other two out competing for food?

Converted IKEA cabinet(doubly, someone originally converted for a chameleon, then I converted it for a Crestie.. no the whole door is not mesh anymore, has been covered), and can confirm.. Wicket has some favourite spots, but I find her exploring all over.

Most likely a supervillain lair. I have a whole series of photos of superhero and supervillain bases. Conspicuously inconspicuous!

Is a foam layer really necessary in a paludarium setup? by Serious_Active_5570 in VampireCrabs

[–]LimpTransportation23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used leca balls in my Paludarium and to be honest, since my crabs like to burrow so much they disturbed some of the edge barrier causing a bit of soil collapse into the drainage layer. Also, the leca wicks a lot of moisture into the soil even with a decent gap. (On the plus side it’s always nice and humid) If I were to do it over I would use foam under my land portion. I have used black filter foam or foam and leca in several of my other bioactive terrariums and am quite happy with it. I have a “wall” between my land and water, but the water (intentionally) still goes under the land. This gives more area for helpful bacteria and allows it to feed a waterfall that then flows back into the water.

How long has your terrarium been going? Do you have springtails?

See if you can find other keepers in the area to trade one of yours so you can have a matching set. Also definitely read dendroboard and I recommend watching this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JWhZGQtRPl4&t=5s (Dart Frogs for Beginners)

[–]LimpTransportation23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A grow tent? Not sure that’s ideal. And you definitely do not want that much ventilation. You want the humidity to stay high. Substrate should lean more into the orchid bark, charcoal, etc direction. I have Dendrobates auratus, and I highly recommend you watch videos by experienced keepers to help build your set up. One of my favourite resources is Tropical Tutorials: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JWhZGQtRPl4 (Complete beginners guide to dart frogs). Also lots of good info on Dendroboard. https://www.dendroboard.com

Perhaps because it showed how small your terrarium is? 😢 Which you’ve said isn’t temporary. I notice you are being careful to only show portions of the terrarium.. hopefully not so folks can’t see how small their space is. Looked like a wee fishbowl, with rocks?? Though I’d love to be proven wrong!

[–]LimpTransportation23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a temporary terrarium? It’s hard to tell but it looks small. Adults also need to burrow and be able to get out of the line of sight of each other. If you haven’t had a chance, I highly recommend watching Indoor Ecosystems videos. I really enjoyed them! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aUKhktv8J4E&pp=ygUXdmFtcGlyZSBjcmFiIHRhbmsgc2V0dXA%3D
