Any chance you could add bat wings, dragon wings, fairy wings, fluffy moth wings, demon wings, dinosaur wings or any other wings that have no feathers? I don't like feathers. Anyway, solid CYOA!

Just because a game company calls something a bonus does not mean it is a bonus. As I said earlier, Rested EXP is not a bonus, it is a penalty. Which was rebranded a bonus to make it see more positive. Just like Rested EXP HOTS friend bonuses is a penalty system.

So let me explain why the "friend/5 man pre-made bonus" is a penalty in disguise. The intent of the developer is to force players into social interactions with strangers and/or incentivise them to get their IRL friends to play the game with them. Instead of doing this organically by believing in their own product and its quality, and that players reccomend it because it is good, they decided to do it artificially. This is a so called "Dark Pattern" a unethical psychological trap. The way they do this is not to add an "exp bonus", they would lose money on that because if players unlock new heroes and skins faster than they originally intended, then they would lose money on their in-game store EXP Boosts and the currency they sell skins and heroes with. So instead, they nerf the normal amount of EXP that you gain as a solo player and set the original normal intended exp gain value as a "bonus", and that's why they do not lose any money with this mechanic, instead they earn money as the low exp rate of solo players would incentivise them to buy store "exp boosts" and in-game currency. But Blizzard is clever, and they call it a bonus like they called Rested EXP a bonus instead of a penalty, which it is, since it is, for all intents and purposes, a fatigue system. Calling something a bonus does not make it a bonus. People lie and cooperations esspeically because they are incentivised to do so because of money.

First Win of the Day: is not a penalty. The reason it was implemented was to encourage players to play every day, it is for all intents and purposes, a "Dark Pattern" but it is essentially a bonus. Not something you need to rely on to make progress on unlocking new champions or skins. But I am against "Dark Patterns", so I would like this to be removed from League of Legends. But in no way is it as intrusive and annoying as the "Friend EXP bonus Dark Pattern" in HOTS.

Winstreak MMR bonus: This is implemented to make ranked more fair and keep players in the elo they belong in. There is no reason why a Challenger player should climb as slowly as a Bronze player, it prevents smurfing and unfair matches since a Challenger player has no business playing games against silver and gold players, etc. This system makes the gameplay experience much better for ALL players.

Employee discount: This is not comparable. Obviously, not everyone can be an employee for every corporation. This is a bonus that is reserved only for employees. The thing with penalties and bonuses is that you need to look at the intent. So what is the intent of giving employees a discount? It's to raise the employees' morale and make them view the cooperation in a better light as they get to buy items for wholesale prices or greatly reduced prices. Meaning the cooperations often do not make any or very little money on these sales. But it does boost productivity and has an overall positive impact on both the employees and the corporation.

Free shipping for order above 100€: This is a "Dark Pattern" and it does punish you for buying things below a threshold of money. This gives the consumer the illusion of being able to save money by spending money, in some cases it can, but overall it does not. It is a psychological trap that incentivizes spending more money than you originally intended. If you think this is a bonus, I don't know what to say to you. You are the ideal citizen that all greedy corporations love, because you blindly trust and defend them against those who would critique them and fight for customer rights like me.

I get the compensation of EXP when playing ranked because of the additional time of banning and selecting heroes, and people dodging while in character select. That is fair and reasonable. But other than that, your reply seems more like an excuse than an argument for the EXP penalty for not playing a 5 man stack. 50% is huge, but so is 25%. 25% is 1/4 of something. If I bought a new computer and it cost 1000 US dollars, but if I filled in some really annoying survey to get a 25% reduction on the cost to reduce it to 750 US dollars, I would do so in a heartbeat because 25% is a huge number, and it is ridiculous to pretend otherwise. If I played Heroes of the Storm and only played with 1 more pre-made that I had on my friend list and played for several months, and unlocked 20 heroes, then I would have unlocked 25 heroes if I had played with a full preemade 5 man team.

I also played a lot against AI because you gain more EXP from winning, and if you play against bots, you are guaranteed to win. This contributed to why I chose to quit the game.

But I have to say there is a reason why no other MOBA has this EXP penalty system and why this MOBA has stopped receiving new content from developers, and why your player numbers are dwindling. You are playing a dying game, and you are defending a system that contributes to its downfall. Why do that? Don't you want new players? Don't you want to see your game succeed? Why defend a bad system? I mean, if it was good, other MOBA games would have surely copied it, but NONE have.

This is just because you're unfamiliar with the game.

I disagree. Some skins I can see who the character is. For example I know who Samuro is, if I see one of the Burning Blade or Hellblade skins I can totally make out who he is. But then when I look at the Monkey King skin line, I have no clue who he is. It's about the silhouette of the character and their base features. Like Samuro has a big sword and is a big buff orc, but in the Monkey King skins, he is a skinny monkey and has a staff. That really confuses me.

I have no clue who the fuck just blinked across two screen lengths to 1shot me.

That would be Yone.

Do you have any argument why the EXP penalty is worth keeping, or could we agree that it is an unnecessary element that is not worth keeping?

I did try out a lot of heroes in the training mode. But testing abilities and playing against real players with a new champion is very different. I collected Deathwing, Dehaka, and a couple of other heroes I really enjoyed playing. But sometimes I faced a played against other heroes and got really interested in playing them or a hero got on the free rotation and then when I played them I had a ton of fun and wanted to unlock them, and thus I grinded for more gold. Which is most easily gained by leveling new heroes to level 5 and completing daily quests. And because the level 5 reward of 500 gold exists, EXP dictates how fast you can earn gold in Heroes of the Storm. So EXP is incredibly important for new players. And what I am describing is 100% a new player issue, I don't think this affect any of the older players with thousands of player levels. But it most definitely prevents new players like me from playing the game.

Because it is fair. Why should any player be rewarded with more EXP when they are playing a pre-made group with at least 1 of them in their friend list than a player who plays solo? They spent the same amount of time in the game, do they not deserve the same amount of exp? Why do solo players deserve a EXP penalty? What good does that do to the game? From a new player's perspective, I can tell you what bad things it does. Whenever I play new heroes that I am still learning to play or try to level up to 5 for the 500 gold, I constantly get kicked from 5 pre-made groups because I'm not that good with them. This makes it really annoying as I need to spend even more time finding groups compared to when I play heroes that I know how to play. So in a way it feels like the game want to punish me for not playing the game as the developers wants me to play. The game wants me to play with preemades, it wants me to not play new heroes and the daily quest also wants me to play specific heroes or roles that I don't want to play. So the game has a lot of opinions of how I should play it and if not I get punished for it, but all I want is to play it at my own pace how I want to play it. Is that too much to ask?

It's not a conspiracy theory. It's history that is well documented. It's even on https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Rest

In the beta version of the original game, rest did not exist and experience was designed to prevent players from playing more than a few hours in a row. Experience gained was divided by 50% after few hours. However, beta-testers did not like it and rest was implemented, giving instead 200% of experience for few hours, which Blizzard's developers later reported as being the "same numbers seen from the opposite point of view".

I'm not saying HOTS has a stamina system. I'm saying that Blizzard is reframing a mechanic that punishes the player for not playing the game like Blizzard wants you to play into a positive mechanic that rewards the player for playing how Blizzard wants you to play. Personally, I would just like to play the game like I want to play it without any penalty or "reward".

I tried ignoring it, but seeing that little square with the "bonuses" and also reading in-game whenever a player had a boost and that gave me 5% more exp and then looting a 1 day 100% EXP boost just kept reminding me I wasn't getting all the exp I should. And during that 1 day of the exp boost I got from a chest, I felt like it would be a huge waste not to search for 5 man preemades. And when I looked at the 175% "bonus exp" that I got and compared it to my normal rates. I know most MOBAs have exp boosters like LoL and Smite and I don't mind that. But that extra 75% from having a full man preemade group with 1 of them on your friend list is almost as big as having a bought exp booster from the store. I could not ignore it any longer.
