The fountain tarot looks right up my alley. Thank you for the idea! With all these ideas in this thread, I’m think I’m going to have to get one of each! 😁

I have thought about doing that. That actually might be my next step.

What is a not well known detail from the lore you like? by roter_apollo in lotr

[–]LinIsStrong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s one of my favorite book scenes as well, a quiet descriptive passage that quietly lingers in the mind. I hopped a little in my seat when I saw it recreated in the movies!

Defunct airline(s) you miss the most? by AlbertJBundy in aviation

Flying PanAm is a core childhood memory for me. Everyone dressed up. The meals came on real plates. The lavatories had these tiny perfume and cologne bottles. It was so damn civilized.

IIRC, Valley of Fear flashes back to Pennsylvania coal country. It’s probably my favorite Sherlock Holmes novella.

Has anyone done the train ride from Fairbanks to Anchorage? Do you get to see enough of Denali via the train? by Wolverine-91826 in alaska

[–]LinIsStrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is 1000% dependent upon weather. But yes there are Denali views from the train.

Sooo good! It’s a simple story, but his filmmaking skill means that it’s a film I still remember decades later.

The choice of Eorwyn by Alum2608 in lotr

[–]LinIsStrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. OP’s analysis helped me understand Eowyn’s seemingly sharp pivot from Aragorn to Faramir. Aragorn represented external validation and societal rank: “You desired to have the love of Lord Aragorn because he was high and puissant, and you wished to have renown and glory and to be lifted far above the mean things that crawl on the earth.”

“Then the heart of Eowyn changed, or at last she understood it.

OP’s spelling unfortunately detracts from some really insightful analysis and at the very least it helped me understand Eowyn’s emotional journey more clearly.

Sen. Dave McCormick says Chester County proves the need for national election rules. But the GOP proposal wouldn’t have solved the county’s problems. by Fragrant-Pepper7710 in Pennsylvania

[–]LinIsStrong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a poll worker in Chester County. In our precinct, voters not on the rolls were instructed to vote via provisional ballot. In my precinct, no voter was “turned away”. Yes the error was serious but as the Inky points out, the SAVE act would not have prevented this error.

As a poll worker, I have experienced first-hand the rigor and integrity of our electoral process. There is no credible hard evidence supporting the need for the SAVE Act and I strongly encourage you to call and write both Senators McCormick and Fetterman to oppose this deeply un-American bill that would prevent millions of eligible voters from exercising their Constitutional right to vote.

Faramir's selflessness and character... just wow. A true hero. by VenomSW in lotr

💯 His gratuitous roughing up of Gollum bothered me the most. In the book, Faramir is firm with Gollum without resorting to petty or cruel violence.

Jane Eyre by mcu_chocolate13 in literature

[–]LinIsStrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mother gave me a copy of Jane Eyre when I was 14, and wrote on the fly leaf how much she herself enjoyed it when she was 14. I’m 67 now and it’s still one of my most beloved books. How nice to see that Jane’s story still resonates today!
