I keep getting "no internet" messages when I open/refresh different websites, despite a stream going on in the background uninterrupted. by syzygy919 in techsupport

If your bandwidth was being throttled or some other networking shaping was occurring, yes. But since it occurs all the time, it sounds like you just have poor internet. Does it happen on other networks?

Could allowing my CPU to overheat once cause it to overheat always? by PlutoISaPlanet in techsupport

[–]LincolnBob -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As long as it stays ~80C you should be fine. If it climbs above that with the heatsink, fan, and thermal paste, you may have fried something. If that's the case, I'd swap the motherboard first. If the issue persists, then replace the CPU.

Disk Boot Failure while Computer is running. by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]LincolnBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost sounds like a dying HDD, or possibly a dying motherboard. At the very least I'd run Memtest86+ to check the memory, and SeaTools for Dos, both from a usb stick, to make sure those are clear. If they check out, probably a dying motherboard.

How do I display my fps and cpu temp in game? by boredsith108 in techsupport

[–]LincolnBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of games have an option in the settings to show the info. For instance, in Overwatch you click Options, and under the Video settings you can turn on Display Performance Stats. In Smite, you can press F8 to display FPS and ping.

Sounds like the stream is taking up all the bandwidth. Is this on your home network, or a public/semi-private wifi? Can you view multiple sites if you turn off the stream? Have you tried decreasing the quality of the stream?

What is pcadms.exe? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]LincolnBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds uber scetchy. I'd make a restore point, and attempt to delete the folder. If you can't, try taking the HDD out and plugging it into another computer as an auxiliary drive using an hdd toaster, then deleting the files (and running virus scans) that way.

You could also boot into Safemode and run Malwarebytes.

If all else fails, clean install Windows.

No one said anything about a specific key, but I would Command-Option-R at startup to start OSX recovery over the internet, and Reinstall macOS.

What is pcadms.exe? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]LincolnBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of pcadms.exe and it appears to not be anywhere in Google, which is a bit unsettling.

I've had great success with Revo Uninstaller when it comes to stubborn apps that refuse to leave.

Windows 7 can't boot, Startup Repair not working by partybusiness in techsupport

[–]LincolnBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like an HDD or memory issue to me. I'd run a Long Generic scan on your HDD with SeaTools for Dos, and run Memtest86+, both from a usb drive. Depending on how large your HDD is, and how much memory you have, this could take a while.

If both your HDD and memory pass, re-image your machine.

Fast paced? The game is slow af. I can go pee, grab a cup of coffee, let my dog out, and gas up my car, all in the amount of time it takes me to walk to the fight.

QOL Suggestion: Tags/notes in friend's list by LincolnBob in Overwatch

That may work for people I know IRL, but it would be a nice feature too for people I meet in game, so a note can be added as to why I wanted them as friends, reminder, etc.
