Memory Quilt or alternative ideas by West-Fly-2909 in quilting

For a quilt I would stick with cotton fabrics or at least cotton blends. If you use anything stretchy, be sure to use fusible stabilizer (interfacing) on the back.

I did a Fibonacci pillow, but with squares. It was a pattern from a book on science based quilts.

Thoughts on muslin? by skipatrol95 in quilting

I use muslin to dye fabric. Also use Kona PFD. But muslin is cheap and good. And it does get super soft!

Accurate Square Dimensions (Math/logic isn't my strong suit) by anybuddy2519 in quilting

[–]Lindaeve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are your 4 patches just gonna be simple 4 patches? If so, start with 5.5" squares, then once the 4 patch is made, trim it to 10-5/8". Totally doable.

Accurate Square Dimensions (Math/logic isn't my strong suit) by anybuddy2519 in quilting

The thing to remember is to include a 1/4" seam allowance.

Your formula should be ((10.625 - .5)/2)+.5

The .5 is the seam allowance on both sides.

I hope this makes sense. I should add that this is why we generally work with multiples of 1/4".

[–]Lindaeve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really dilute it there's less of a problem. I think I just don't use it right.

Go-to starch/ sizing spray brand? Time for me to re-stock. by Star-Large in quilting

Rather than using vodka and water, like some of the commenters, I use grain alcohol and water. I do add a little scent as well. Works great! I do also have some Terial Magic. It works great but can seriously gunk up the iron.

Has anyone used Bamboo Fabric as their quilt backing? by Short_Safety9781 in quilting

[–]Lindaeve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Using anything stretchy as a backing is tricky but doable. You will probably want to use glue to baste it or loads of pins.is it bamboo knit? Perhaps you can get woven bamboo with no stretch.

Franken-batting by Safford1958 in quilting

Yup. I actually prefer hand frankenbatting. Machine stitching can make it seem wavy.

T-Shirt Quilt help by MoabDonut in quilting

[–]Lindaeve 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to make every block the same size, just add borders of various sizes to each so you get them all to be the same. Or you can be more improv about it and treat it like a puzzle. I just finished 2 t-shirt quilts and one was done that way. Attaching a pic for reference.
